I got out to AirVenture in Oskosh, WI this weekend and felt really pumped. It felt comforting seeing everyone united under one bluesky and cheering for the same team.

My next goal is to 𝑓𝑙𝑦 out to AirVenture ;)

This is a great example of #paralleltranslation at WITNe, taking advantage of existing surgical procedures to supplement mechanistic insights into neuromodulation therapies from benchtop, cell culture/organoid, computational modeling, small animal, and large animal studies.

I couldn't have done this without my teachers (Wendell Lake, Laura Dent, Kip Ludwig, and Aaron Suminski) + students (Jordan Ranum) at WITNe and the University of Wisconsin Department of Neurological Surgery. πŸ™

Wearable peripheral nerve stimulator reduces essential tremor symptoms through targeted brain modulation Essential tremor (ET), the most common movement disorder in adults, presents with involuntary shaking of the upper extremities during postural hold and kinetic tasks linked to dysfunction in the cereb...

Non-invasive neuromodulation ⚑🧠 often lacks mechanistic evidence supporting its clinical efficacy. Recently, I (helped 😎) led this study exploring how TAPS* may treat Essential Tremor. We measured thalamic LFPs during human DBS surgeries to test how the VIM thalamus responds to TAPS. πŸ§ͺ

First LLM Test, proof of concept - Surgical Synapse user: Testing LLM's simple logic: 9.11 and 9.8, which is bigger? ai: 9.11 is bigger than 9.8. This is because when comparing decimal numbers, we can look at them digit by digit from left to right. Bo…

Slacked off from writing papers to to integrate Claude into my site for surgical techniques. The LLM ai showed some exciting results as it's able to draw on abdominal anatomy to offer tips on how to do a liposuction 😲

I always wonder why CMV and Toxo have different calcification pattern? Do you think it has to do with their size, ie CMV is much smaller and can spread to/ through the csf?

Trombone makes its way into UW operating room A unique surgical procedure preformed by a Wisconsin doctor was recently documented in an academic journal for hitting all of the right notes. Literally.

Fun day in the neurosurgery. I remember when Brian asked if he could bring his instrument, and I enthusiastically encouraged him to bring in the trombone! XD

Interesting… looking at the bimodal organization of the vagal nerve (iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1... ), it’s likely that the patient’s vocal cord paresis came from trauma/ dissections of the medial vagal fascicles that would give rise to the recurrent laryngeal branch?
