It is very easy to read statements like this as a joke.
This is not a joke.
We have proven with AI, completely by accident, what knowledgeable people have been saying for decades: the environment that rich people live in gives them a very specific personality disorder.
Regardless of whether somebody is pro, anti or ambivalent about AI, it seems something we should all be able to agree on is the need for strong government regulations that do likes like keep AI companies from stealing people’s work or private information to make a profit
He is literally talking in circles here because he has no idea what DEI is other than a focus on people with experiences different than his
Adding to how stupid this was, a project focused on the restoration of the Van Ostrande-
Radliff House was flagged as related to DEI because of its goal of
“preserving and celebrating the historic architecture and
culture of Dutch colonial period in Albany.”
Trump is literally Regina George without the character development
Would be nice to work at an institution that both publicly defends trans people and points to the absurdity of being expected to apologize for following presidential guidelines simply because the next president happens to disagree with those guidelines.

Sounds lovely
Being in Puerto Rico, which does not do Daylight Saving Time, when the US mainland for no good reason puts their clock forward one hour makes me realize how much more civilized it is to just keep the same time all year round.
A government empowered to deny basic human rights to anybody in the name of national security is one empowered to deny human rights to anybody in its name.
This was never just about immigration. It was about using immigration as a point of entry to impose fascism on the entire population.
The party who has branded itself as the sole protector of children becoming beholden to a pedophile connected to a broader child sex trafficking ring may go down as one of the biggest ironies in US history
Instead of adopting an adultist frame that suggests Trump is acting like a child, we should ask what factors in our society (e.g. racism, sexism, heteronormativity wealth inequalities) socialize the most privileged people in our country to be completely self-interested and lack empathy with others.
Many describe Trump as acting like a child. This assume children are inherently less developed than adults. But children often have a much more developed sense of empathy & justice than adults. Trump is not acting like a child. He is acting like an imperialist. US leaders have always acted this way.

Noem’s firing shows yet again that no matter how much somebody is willing to give up their integrity to please Trump that he will always threw them under the bus once they become an inconvenience.
The only people who claim that colleges campuses stifle dissent are the MAGA cult who literally want to stifle dissent
Students being able to receive the supports that will help them be successful is a good thing. The problem isn’t students gaming the system. The problem is a system that requires them to be labeled as having a disability to receive that support.
I can’t stop thinking about a short video of Mamdani working through a Spanish-language announcement with AOC's help.
So many US Latinxs grew up having our Spanish policed. This moment treated it as expertise instead.
I wrote about why that matters.

I suspect the journalist was most responsible for the hyperbolic nature of the claims though I do think the siloed nature of language studies means we are often “discovering” insights well established in other areas. Though I suspect that may also be a larger structural problem of academia
Anybody suggesting that this assertion is some type of groundbreaking argument is mind boggling.
“Their central claim is clear: language is not merely a spoken code. Instead, it is a dynamic, multimodal, socially grounded system shaped through interaction, culture, and shared meaning.”
Jayme Lawson from Sinners hit the nail on the head and said how I felt with the whole BAFTAs situation.
The only time they even mention women’s sports is in their efforts to try to legislate trans women out of public life. Once they are successful at that they will then begin efforts to legislate cis women out of public life with them.
This is why even if I were to accept the simplistic way people on social media now use the term performative I would still reject the description as a criticism since all good protest should have components of performance art
This is why you do stunts.

The BAFTA incident has been framed as either “he couldn’t control it” or “he shouldn’t be allowed in public.”
Harm clearly occurred. The challenge is responding without defaulting to ableist exclusion.

love when democrats talk about kitchen table issues as if trans people and immigrants don’t have kitchen tables 🙃
I really appreciate this TikToker with Tourette syndrome, Shay, for taking the time to educate so many of us (including me) about her disability and coprolalia in light of what happened at the BAFTAs with John Davidson when Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were on stage.
I learned a lot.
An important thing to note is that this study was conducted in 2023 which was fairly early in Musk’s fascist takeover of the app. One can only assume the effects have gotten even stronger since then.
