On Phebe Molkenboer:

As shown today, having an international player makes a big difference in the competitiveness of a team.

Weird that the Dragons didn't post anything about her joining the team; no idea if it's for the whole season, or only the first half or maybe it's just for this weekend.

Dragons innings: new signing Phebe Molkenboer was the only player to score more than 30, as she made 54 in her debut South African list A match.

The North West Dragons make their return to Division 1 today, in a 50 over match against the Titans.

The weather in Potch is looking rather gloomy, so will probably not get a full match played.

Here's the lineups, including a Netherlands international (?):

Also, if she's serious about getting back to the Proteas, DanΓ© van Niekerk needs to start bowling again.

Notes on the match:

Based on her performances for SA emerging and today, Leah Jones should be considered for the Ireland inbound tour.

Keep an eye on Nicolien JvR. I'm seeing a good amount of development over the past two seasons.

Western Province in their reply only scored 162. They tried a different approach with their batting order, which obviously didn't work.

DanΓ© van Niekerk top scored with 66, with not much else to mention from the rest.

Zintle Kula had great outing, with figures of 3/22.

In the first innings the Badgers made 237/9, with Julia Hoal, Izel Cilliers and Zintle Kula being the key contributors.

Delmari Tucker and Leah Jones were both economical and took two wickets each.

South Africa's route to the semi-finals has been made a lot easier, thanks to a smashing innings by Nadine de Klerk.

Also, how nice from Richa Ghosh to fake an injury; it really helped de Klerk to catch her breath before finishing the job.

The Dolphins win by 22 runs as they've bowled out the Lions for 224.

Start of the SA women's domestic season today with the Lions hosting the Dolphins at the Wanderers for a Pro50 match.

Lions won the toss and decided to field first.

They bowled out the Dolphins for 246 in 49.5 overs.

After the first round of matches South Africa are at the bottom of the table with a net run-rate of - 3.77.

In their last two matches, the Proteas have been bowled out for 115 and 69.

Before that, their 2025 first innings average was 276.

The lack of Tryon and de Klerk also made a big difference in the middle overs yesterday.

Dercksen needs something from the pitch to be effective. That, or she needs to considerably improve her control.

Looking at the other half of the match: Mandla Mashimbyi and Dillon du Preez will need to find a solution for the toothless bowling attack.

At the moment they have a batting lineup good enough to reach the semi-final next month, but also a bowling attack to prevent that from happening.

17.09.2025 08:07 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

A rather good batting performance by the Proteas yesterday: Tazmin Brits getting her 3rd ODI century of the year and Marizanne Kapp with a career best 121*.

While I definitely will not miss the site, as it had one of the worst interfaces ever, I do also realize what's at risk.

For years Pitchvision was the only place where you could find ball-by-ball data for women's domestic matches in SA, and there's a real possibility we've lost all that data.

09.09.2025 17:58 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Saw on their socials that the Titans played the Lions in a pre-season 50 over match today.

Couldn't find a scorecard at the usual suspects, so I checked if maybe Pitchvision had it.

But it seems their site is down, and has been for a while now.

No surprises in the SA squad for the world cup. Anneke Bosch returns in the place of MianΓ© Smit, who will be the traveling reserve.

So CSA will be announcing the world cup squad tomorrow:

With van Niekerk out of contention, here's my probable squad:

Wolvaardt
Brits
Dercksen
Kapp
Tryon
Luus
Meso
Smit/Bosch
de Klerk
Jafta
Khaka
Klaas
Mlaba
Jafta
Shangase

Same as last year with Cricinfo and their top 25 women of the 21st century; Ash Gardner is way overhyped.

30.08.2025 19:33 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The world cup selection will be interesting.

Four players (Bosch, Luus, Smit, van Niekerk) who play a very similar role and there's probably only two spots available.

So DanΓ© van Niekerk has unretired from international cricket and has been added to the Proteas training camp for the Pakistan series/World Cup.
