On this day in 1943, nine members of the anti-nazi Baum Group were executed in Plotzensee Prison in Berlin.
Mainly but not entirely Jewish, the group had dared to set fire to a vast Goebbels-sponsored propaganda exhibition in Berlin's Lustgarten. The reprisals were vicious.
