Isn't always feasible, especially since most people keep their retired service dog until their passing. There's fantastic dogs in shelters and some can become service dogs but not all can. Just like not every puppy born for a job will be able to do the job they were bred for.

The pool of potential service dogs also shrink when you factor in age. Not because people claim you can't teach old dogs new tricks but because of the time needed to train a service dog. Training a dog for a year or more then only getting to have their support as the service dog for a year or two

And when people claim shelter dogs can be service dogs, not all of them actually can. Unfortunately, some of the dogs that end up in shelters they went through things that make it absolutely impossible. Others have injuries/disabilities that make it so they wouldn't be healthy working for long.

with a lot of fandoms it felt like I was standing outside of a group of people watching them have a conversation, but as soon as I found the 911 fandom it felt like the circle immediately opened up and made a space for me to join in

No problem! Dialect of different US regions/states was a hyperfixation when I took a dual credit government class after my professor did an exercise using it on the first day to try to figure out a) where we are from, b) where our parents might have been from, and c) how much we knew about the world
