Found this rather beautiful Hanging Slime Mould (Badhamia utricularis) in an East Sussex woodland this week.

Found this when having a sort out!
Times have moved on since the first National Bird Atlas, but certainly looking forward to the next one starting in November 2027 π

A beautiful English Oak (Quercus robur) on Glynde Levels. Pic taken during my January WeBS count there, with 50 bird species including a stunning male Pintail and two Kingfishers.

Looking for a New year's resolution, how about getting involved with WeBS counts. Find a vacant site via link. In Sussex, Shinewater Lake, Selsey Bill and Norman's Bay all need a volunteer.

BTO Archives hold a range of material relating to the work and history of BTO and UK ornithology, plus personal papers and photographic material from key figures in ornithology and bird photography. π¦ This includes Ronald M. Garnettβs notebooks & archives of the Reverend Maurice Bird (1857β1924).
Black-headed gull on the South Bank of the Thames in central London.
Unfortunately I couldn't read the ring number, but many BH gulls move between the UK and central/eastern Europe.

Great to see three of our Sussex birders involved in co-authoring the LSW paper in the Dec copy of British Birds. PAM will be an important tool in the next National Bird Atlas.

Another excellent bird report from Sussex. Thanks to everyone involved in producing such a high quality publication.

Not the finest photo of a Clouded Yellow, but given the wind this morning I thought this was okay.
Fair movement of Swallows (min 160) with a few House and Sand Martins, plus about 6+ Sandwich Terns.

An outing out of the area yesterday to Seven Sisters Country Park with Alan Martin and @birdingbodds.bsky.social found a small colony of the rare Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly, including this mating pair.

A rather poor record shot of this super dainty Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly (Ischnura pumilio) at a pond in Sussex. Not found by myself, but the record has been confirmed.

It's been a good year for Jersey Tiger moths (Euplagia quadripunctaria) from my experience. A less usual but no less beautiful view from the underside, and showing that I don't clean my study window often enough π

This colour ringed Great White Egret was seen in Rye Bay on 2nd August and photographed by John Willsher, but where had it come from?
It was ringed in the nest on 22nd April at RSPB Ham Wall, as one of a brood of three.

Stages in the fitting of 1 of 3 Swift bricks in Brighton today. This was a retro fit and the box sits in the cavity of the wall.
Not complicated with the right equipment.

I might hazard a guess at Buff-tailed Bumblebee?
Nice combo of Common Carder Bumblebee (Bombus pascuorum) and Hornet Plumehorn (Volucella zonaria) on some type of Thistle?

Not the Sdnp in my original post. Apologies all.
Lovely walk at the Cuckmere today, where 2 breeding plumage Dunlin on the scrape showed really well and close to the assembled group, who were suitably impressed by their beauty.
