Health & Safety

Police were also far more likely to use force with Black children than white : 154 out of 157 of the use-of-force incidents with children under the age of 18 in 2023 were with Black children. In nearly 1/3 the police pointed a firearm at the child #DCKIDCOUNT wearedcaction.org/dc-kids-coun... 2/3

Even without Trump militarizing District law enforcement, Black children were already disproportionately policed. Black youth under 18 were stopped at > 10x the rate of their white peers. Police also searched Black youth under 18 far more often than they did white youth: 935 compared to just 6. 1/3

@mayorbowser.bsky.social left a $10 MILLION gap in the early educator pay equity fund and $20+ MILLION gap for child care subsidies. Without further investment from Council early edu programs will not be able to serve all families or pay all teachers

The COW 🐮 cmte also protected all $ for out-of-school-time grants ($27M protected) and secured commitment from executive that security costs will be covered for OST programs serving DCPS students on-site.

👩🏾‍🎓 Committee of the Whole and @chmnmendelson.bsky.social restored $300K for DCPS coordinators to help pregnant & parenting students remain connected to and supported in school.

🙌 $ increased for Nurse-Family Partnership ($400K) and DCCFSA ($200K) Home Visiting programs thanks to @brianneknadeau.bsky.social @chenderson.bsky.social & @cmzparker5.bsky.social cmtes. Though recurring would be better, these 1-time enhancements will help more families reach their parenting goals

Human Services cmte also restored workforce development grant for homeless trans youth thanks to @robertwhitedc.bsky.social & @cmzparker5.bsky.social cmtes. Stable housing+career dev+personalized wrap around supports are how young people gain financial stability and reach their full potential
