and to be clear - the problem isn’t that this trope exists or that people like it. it’s that a good chunk of this fandom can’t separate alex’s bi crisis from this trope, and so alex’s realization of his sexuality is often inextricably tied to jealousy and toxicity

and the sad thing is i actually really liked this trope before it became the standard for how his bi crisis is written

i’m just going to be blunt: as a late-blooming bisexual, the way this fandom overwhelmingly treats alex’s late realization of his sexuality like it’s a biblical sin that he has to repent for by watching henry be the city bicycle is downright insulting.

and no one is saying you can’t write or enjoy certain tropes. but that also needs to go hand-in-hand with some self-awareness

so i’m sorry, but if you can’t see how me calling out how the brown main character is treated differently in fic than the white main character is different from criticizing specific fic and authors, then you’re part of the problem
