YOU'RE RIGHT. & that's why I am so excited about the prospect of someone taking it up
& if it *is* a chore, then I think we as designers need to interrogate why that is. The answer to which is likely to be multifaceted and dependent on context!
I'VE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER TO BE IN HELL
To me, it feels similar to the energy of Netflix dumbing down shows because they expect everyone to be on their phones instead of actually watching.
I agree! I'm thinking more on the creator side of things, though. Like, if we design games with the expectation that people won't read the book, then what's the point?? & why encourage that behaviour through your design choices?
To me, the expectation that one should be able to run an RPG without having read it at all, or having only skimmed the book, is sad. How can we expect others to be invested in our work, in our art, if we are not invested in it ourselves? If we do not expect others to engage meaningfully with it?

What some of you think are "gotchas" are actually not. Some people do strive to be consistent in values.
In a server I'm in, @grantorwhatever.bsky.social brought up the idea of The Home We Remember as a vehicle for a horror story, so I'm putting it out there:
If you make a horror AP with THWR, please share it with me because I will be so feral about it

eradicate expressions of sexuality altogether. This push is particularly coming from religiously motivated groups who demonize sex outside of a very specific context.
women in particular are often pushed by mainstream beauty standards to maintain a perpetually (pre-)adolescent body, and how that intersects with the pervasive pedophilia pushed by the patriarchy.
BUT I think that's not the conversation that's being had here. Instead, this is moreso a push toโ
I actually don't even think this is true. If we look at the traits that people tend to label as "minor coded" (e.g., being small, an absence of body hair, etc.), they are often the same traits that are considered conventionally attractive. I think there is a real conversation to be had about howโ
