From and X-ray machine, with love ♥️
Special thanks to @drrichjohnston.bsky.social for this extra special data!

Favourite bit of any x-ray conf is the weird sample setup chats!
Classic Swansea dampness here 😞

I am happy to add folks if you just reply to a thread where I mention it.

Cactus spines and a polystyrene ball ojna green cutting mat

First day back in the lab & returning to a very tricky sample for x-ray imaging.
*Through gritted teeth* it just keeps ******* moving!
So today I made a little cage from cactus spines on top of a small polystyrene ball to keep the head of a tiiiny deceased beetle stationary in ethanol during scans
It's happening! #Xrays

Collected on the Swansea Uni campus beach as part of an undergrad materials science bioprospecting class then X-ray imaged at the lab 100 yards from the shoreline
This kinda sums up what I do as a researcher working on materials ranging from ocean organisms to space alloys, volcanoes to meteorites, jet engines to insects. With a leaning towards bioinspiration/biomimicry.
This is me in VR crawling through the coiled proboscis of a moth we imaged using X-rays
Haha ok thanks Ben 🤣
I’m noob’ing my way through Bluesky at the mo!
Similar to others, there are some cheapish all in one options: amzn.eu/d/h44IEOS
But if they already have a good microscope with optics, a slide-in camera or a phone mount (as others have suggested) may be better. Phone cameras a more generally better than consumer microscope cameras
I'm looking to grow some connectivity for materials scientists & engineers on BlueSky - if you identify in this grouping, I'd be happy to add you to this starter pack 🧪

Please let me in, out here has been completely festooned with weak-ass billionaire shit-memes, and filled with fawning bin people.
Are, are there scientists in there?
