I'm Dr. Annie Andrews. Iโ€™m a pediatrician, not a politician. But either way I know how to handle people who are full of sh*t.

Today I am announcing my campaign for US Senate to replace Lindsey Graham. Share this if you're with me.

Image for The Irish Itinerary Podcast Episode 60, Emily Cooper & Dean Fee in conversation with Tim Groenland.

Additional info: In their conversation with Tim Groenland, Emily Cooper and Dean Fee discuss the origins of their literary journal, The Pigโ€™s Back, designed as a Donegal-based journal with an international bent. They talk about creating not only an issue, but a beautiful object that stays in peopleโ€™s minds; blurring fiction and non-fiction; bringing the many literary journals in Ireland together at the Journals Fleadh; and what being edited has thought them as writers and editors.

For the Irish Itinerary Podcast (@efacis.bsky.social), I had a fun chat with Dean Fee and Emily Cooper of @thepigsback.bsky.social about their editing of the magazine, Irish literary journals and the Journals Fleadh, and their own writing:

Google AI overview: Several notable Irish poets have died at relatively young ages. One example is John Keats, who died in Rome at the age of 25 from tuberculosis. Another is Rupert Brooke, a highly admired poet, who died at 27 during World War I. Brendan Behan, a celebrated playwright and poet, passed away at the age of 41.

It was an immense pleasure and privilege to host @caoilinnhughes.bsky.social at SJU! Our students loved The Alternatives, and it sparked many conversations about climate change, the nature of democracy, and siblinghood. Thanks so much for visiting our campus, Caoilinn!

John Banville
The most intellectually stimulating book I read this year was Herald of a Restless World: How Henri Bergson Brought Philosophy to the People by Emily Herring (Basic Books). It is hard to believe now, but in the early 20th century Bergson was one of the most famous people in the world, as famous as Albert Einstein, with whom he differed in a public confrontation in Paris in 1922. His philosophy of time was founded on two key concepts, durรฉe, his word for the undulating temporal flow, and รฉlan vital, the ongoing accumulation of experience over time. Bergsonism is definitely due a revival.
