Chainsaw Man: The Reze Arc

There were just some concepts I found to be crazy underdeveloped or not executed well. Once I read past this opening arc, I hope to see them done in more interesting ways. For now I’m just gonna keep my expectations around the middle (2/2)

Tom Taylor’s Nightwing - Vol. 1-3

Eh, pretty good‼️ It might have some of my favorite art and paneling from a comic book ever. As far as its narrative goes, it’s alright. I love Nightwing’s character and everything around dealing with Blüdhaven’s corruption (1/2)

The script, soundtrack, performances, it all has that flair to it. The presentation is the best part of the movie. It could’ve been stronger in some regards, but regardless, this movie was lightning in a bottle. Will definitely rewatch in the future (2/2)

The Crow (1994)

I can’t comment on it as an adaptation. All I can say is the hype is earned. There won’t ever be a movie with this kind of style and identity ever again. It’s directed like a music video seen from a rock subgenres at the time, and it’s not just down to the directing (1/2)

Like, yeah, he doesn’t actually kill anybody in this book

But he commits Looney Toons levels of violence that would end the breathing subscription of any normal person. Kinda feels like plot armor that he doesn’t end up crossing the line

I ate this shit up bro. This is the core of Batman’s character at its most emotionally resonant, at least in my eyes. The book is also a masterclass visually

My only issue is that the sheer brutality of this Batman variant kinda makes me suspend my belief in his no kill rule (2/2)

Absolute Batman Vol. 1

Despite all the new bells and whistles, this book wears its intent on its sleeve. It’s a celebration of the broad strokes of what Batman is about, with the stark differences in the premise only serving to make them more effective (1/2)

Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 3

Oh my GOD dude just when I thought the story was getting good, it went back to potential man status. I’m so tired dude I should read Absolute Batman instead

I’ve met some cool people through dating apps but as long common ground isn’t there, the talking never goes anywhere. Going online with the intention of dating also inherently adds a lot of pressure on both sides that drastically changes interactions. It’s not something I like dealing with

Sorry if this is bordering on venting, but I think it’s really cool whenever people meet their significant other through fandom activity. Tbh I wish I had that

It actually had solid, emotional resolutions for the cast, but the prevailing issue is how they’re undermined by setup for DCU projects that don’t even exist yet. It feels out of left field

Can’t say it didn’t dampen my excitement for the DCU a little (2/2)

Peacemaker - S2

Good up until the finale. What a bold take I know, but the one thing I’m gonna contribute to the discourse is that the finale actually had redeeming qualities. With how people talk about it, it’s like they think James Gunn waterboarded an infant (1/2)

Dracula: A Love Story

At the beginning I thought I’d like this movie more. CLJ hams it up as Drac and carries the whole thing. If it wasn’t for him I probably would’ve hated it, with the movie’s other redeeming qualities just being its filmmaking

Fantastic Four: Unthinkable

I didn’t expect to come out of this comic loving it to death yet here we are. The first four issues used are pretty solid, but the last two add an emotional cherry on top that add substance to the F4’s blight this run

Books of Doom

It has the inherent problem of an origin reciting where the stakes are low, but what this series does REALLY well is contextualize Doom’s evil. There’s also the unreliable narrator aspect, which is fun when put next to the flashbacks. He can’t recite events without stroking his ego

Can’t say I particularly like the Nu-world or future Val and Franklin story beats though. It’s a general problem I have with Hickman where I feel he gets so lost in the sauce of his worldbuilding that it doesn’t serve an interesting story (2/2)

Fantastic Four: Solve Everything

Very quickly converted me into an F4 fan. This run tends to lean more on the exploration aspect of the F4, with their expeditions building up to subplots that made me like them a lot individually (1/2)

A few episodes were really bad with how Gainax was trying wayyy too hard to be gross and edgy. In those situations the jokes lack substance and they don’t land. I mostly had a good time, but P&S is not gonna be for everyone and that’s fine

Extremely middling on a bad day, solid on a good one (2/2)

Panty & Stocking - S1

My feelings on this anime are weird. From an anime industry POV, P&S was pretty novel. An anime with this kind of style and raunchiness was unheard of and it’s fun for that. Its anti-conformist message shines through with it, but its humor didn’t always work for me (1/2)

Xenoblade 4 is gonna be so hilarious. Imagine being a catboy frolicking in the grasslands with triceratop cows and suddenly a bunch of dipshits from California crash land in front of you

Yakuza 4

Might finish in the near future. For now I can’t vibe with early PS3 Yakuza. Its gameplay loop aged like milk

Saejima has the potential to be one of my favorite characters in the franchise but that discovery is not worth it atm

Dark Souls: Remastered

This game is so cool and I’d be down to continue if the level design wasn’t the biggest slog I’ve ever had to deal with. Fun boss fights are dragged down by having to walk miles and waste resources just to try again

Rq gonna add some things I haven’t finished and don’t plan on coming back to for a while

I like all of Gunn’s cape flicks and shows to some extent but sometimes I’m relieved when he doesn’t get an R rating because his scripts can feel like this
