The only question for Mike Johnson should be "why did you dissolve Congress?" And when he predictably lies or changes the subject, repeatedly follow up with variations of "so why aren't you doing your job?"

The Speaker's opinions on anything else matter little if Congress is artificially on leave.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. And then remember this: The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural.

No Kings As the president escalates his authoritarian power grab, the NO KINGS non-violent movement continues to rise stronger. We are united once again to remind the world: America has No Kings and the power ...

I'll see y'all out there today, upholding two and a half centuries of American tradition, treading in the footsteps of generations of Americans who went before: No Kings.

This has been bothering me all day because the obvious point of No Kings is to show we have the power to do a color revolution if they donβ€˜t honor the results of future elections.

The other point is to radicalize fence-sitters by having people who are *clearly doing nothing wrong* be tear gassed

But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had in-vested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death.
The Indians had been given an impossible task. The only gold around was bits of dust garnered from the streams. So they fled, were hunted down with dogs, and were killed.

After each six or eight months' work in the mines, which was the time required of each crew to dig enough gold for melting, up to a third of the men died.
While the men were sent many miles away to the mines, the wives remained to work the soil, forced into the excruciating job of digging and making thousands of hills for cassava plants.
Thus husbands and wives were together only once every eight or ten months and when they met they were so exhausted and depressed on both sides... they ceased to pro-create. As for the newly born, they died early because their mothers, overworked and fam-ished, had no milk to nurse them, and for this reason, while I was in Cuba, 7000 children died in three months. Some mothers even drowned their babies from sheer desper-ation.... In this way, husbands died in the mines, wives died at work, and children died from lack of milk ... and in a short time this land which was so great, so powerful and fer-tile... was depopulated... My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature, and now I tremble as I write....

Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century β€œwoke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of BartlomΓ© de las Casas.

Worth a friendly reminder that the next set of nation-wide No Kings protests are set for October 18th.

There's probably one in your area.

I am not generally a crowds or protests sort of person, but there's one in my town and I'll be at it on the 18th.

Eric Foner’s book launch party for Our Fragile Freedoms last weekend. Honored to have blurbed it and was so touched by his inscription when he is the gold standard as far as the history of Reconstruction is concerned.

The famous photograph of General U.S. Grant leaning casually against a tree outside his tent on campaign. He's dressed in his simple - not to say rather sloppy - uniform with the only sign of his exalted rank being the lieutenant general's shoulder straps on his coat; in fact, aside from those stars and his official hat, in B&W it looks almost like 1860's civilian men's dress. Grant is glancing off to the side with a thoughtful expression, his left hand propped on his hip.

Pictured; someone who utterly fails to meet Pete Hegseth's grooming standards and will soon be evicted from this man's Army.

I re-read Letter from a Birmingham Jail the other day and I was struck by just how stunningly brilliant it was not just in writing but strategic thinking.

Like, not news, it's a modern classic for a reason.

It's just a remarkably clear vision of a strategy to achieve change.

Back from High Germany after marching around Nordlingen in the service of Gustav Adolphus! Cracking historic event everyone gets involved in. Great place, still walled, plenty of preserved architecture, residents proud of their history. Will do the event again if invited!

'Andor' is ending. It brought untold stories of trauma and humanity to 'Star Wars' β€œAndor” ends with the release of a three-episode series finale on Tuesday. The Disney+ streaming show took β€œStar Wars" to previously unexplored places, including depiction of the long-term effects of trauma.

Dan Gilroy won the #Emmy award for best writing for a drama series for "Andor," which brought untold stories of trauma and humanity to "Star Wars."
