like this. He willed his hand to move, reach out, do fucking anything to stop him from leaving. It can’t end like this! He tried again and again and *again* in the hopes it’d work.
But he was just too *weak*.
Darkness swam around the edges of his vision as the image of his prince’s back grew
“Maybe, in another life, I’d have spent forever with you.” He leaned in close. “I’ll always miss what we could’ve had.”
A kiss.
How could something so small carry so much sorrow behind it?
“Farewell, my beloved white knight.”
He watched Eric turn and begin walking into the light. It couldn’t end
“One more thing.” A thumb stroked along the underside of an eye, wiping away unshed tears. “As your prince, I order you to not come after me. Please let this be the one time you listen to me, okay?”
/Don’t ask that of me. You know better than anyone I won’t stand by that./
“Thank you for being my friend, my lover, my confidant, and--” a wet laugh escaped his throat-- “my knight in shining armor. I’ll love you till the day I die.”
“Son, it’s best we be going.”
“Yes, father.”

“There.” The glow vanished, its heat replaced with cold. “That should keep the bleeding to a minimum, at least.”
He wanted to say something, anything, to prevent him from leaving.
“Shh, I know, I know, I know…” Eric murmured under his breath. “I know it hurts but this was the only way I could stop you.”
Opening his eyes a sliver revealed a soothing glow and a concentrated expression set across his lover’s features. Warmth enveloped his legs, healing the wounds that were

Ringing.
There was a ringing in his ears. Low but just barely audible enough to be heard. An ache settled deep within his bones, leaving him incapable of moving much, if at all. His entire body felt as if it’d been rocked by an explosion of some kind.
Not too far from the truth, he supposed.

Grabbing onto his hand, Eric only said, “It wouldn’t be us if we were conventional,” before leaning in and kissing Alek.
They shared a few chaste kisses, the last of which
Nothing’s stopping us from going out on more dates so we can take as many as we want. You need only say the word.” Alek’s other hand reached up to caress Eric’s cheek. “Better late than never, right?”
