Sounds like fun! As an invertebrate lover who grew up and lives in Portal I hope you guys stress to and show your participants the need to put rocks back correctly. Bioblitzs and the like in the past have caused some of the worst damage to certain arthropod microhabitats here I’ve ever seen!

Millipedes will have a single pair on the first few segments behind the head, and then for males, like this guy, the 7th segment has one or both pairs modified for mating!

Milli! Most of the segments have two pairs of legs, centipedes only ever have a single pair per segment

Anillodes are cute little blind carabids that are seemingly widespread, yet poorly sampled across California. Despite having walked miles through this canyon these were all found in a few square meters, where a talus slide transitioned to gravel held together by grass roots.
