Millipedes will have a single pair on the first few segments behind the head, and then for males, like this guy, the 7th segment has one or both pairs modified for mating!

Anillodes are cute little blind carabids that are seemingly widespread, yet poorly sampled across California. Despite having walked miles through this canyon these were all found in a few square meters, where a talus slide transitioned to gravel held together by grass roots.
