Tentatively dipping my toe back in to social media. This account will probably include books, films, PC games, walking, golf, swimming, (sustainable) travel, history, Lego and cats.

And only adoption is allowed. So like, ban dog breeding. (Same for cats. And I LOVE cats. But seriously, there are enough stray and rescue cats to go round.)

Or dog owners have to pass a test before being allowed to own a dog.

It is in Coventry. Not the city centre but it's still Coventry.

We're dealing with a time that will last for however long and do however much untold damage, in which the worst bigots are in power, and siding with them and accommodating their perspective is unforgivably cowardly. It's important to point out who the cowards are so we can remember who they were.

It wasn't that long ago that they were obsessed with millennials - until people pointed out that a good chunk of us were already middle aged!

Ah sorry, I was talking about the book in the quote tweet. Yeah, the Classics sound like a different issue.

Yes, it could have been typesetter error during last minute corrections. It's unfortunate but it happens. It could be corrected for future print runs, though.

Not that I feel I need to defend Penguin, but it's possible that they did and decided to correct for future print runs rather than delay a publication date.

If you’re a royal historian writing a biography of the early years of Andrew & Charles and you haven’t called it A Nonce and Future King what are you even doing?

The Cadbury factory in Bournville with the Cadbury and Bournville signs on two of the buildings. The surroundings look very industrial. The weather is vile: the sky is grey and it's raining. There are some rain drops on the train window. The photo is slightly blurry and wonky.

Photo taken by me, earlier today from a train window.

Not if you're from the UK. Talking about the weather is our national pastime, right lads?

A glass of vin santo dessert wine on a plate with two biscotti.

Perfect dessert at my favourite Italian restaurant. The dessert wine is vin santo, which was delicious. Packed with flavour, but not overly sweet.

I want to make a thread about products that are good and not actually shit, given that so much stuff is getting worse in quality and value for money. Feel free to add to this if you've got stuff you can recommend.

painting of Mary Shelley by Rothwell. It shows a white woman with sloping shoulders, dark hair and gold glasses.
Frontispiece of Frankenstein’s first edition without any author’s name on it.

It's ALIVE!

#OnThisDay, 1 Jan 1818, Mary Shelley's 'Frankenstein' was published anonymously. Her gothic novel was also one of the first science-fiction novels.
