Check me out on @flintdibble.bsky.social 's show, breaking down myths about Aztec sacrifice! Going live in half an hour.
Look at how this cat is sitting on my lap. Apparently this is very comfy, since she's purring so loud.
I recently dropped in to discuss archaeology & answer questions with @flintdibble.bsky.social . It was a blast! Come check it out here!
Good morning and happy Thursday! Huge grant is finally making it's way through uni routing, so Im celebrating by staying in bed cuddling with the animals. #archaeology #science #pets
Current mood
My two kittens and my foster cats.
Sometimes I forget abt this app, oops. I'll get better! In the meantime, my 2 foster fails are on my lap and I can feel both of their tiny heartbeats. Im melting rn
I love feeding my dogs healthy meals when I can while on a budget
Tonight they had raw hamburger meat, boiled carrots, apple, peach, cooked egg, oatmeal, Kefir yogurt, chicken neck, 2 chicken hearts, fish oil supplement & kelp powder. #dog #healthy
Nothing much, just me & my partner making plans for post-collapse America & chatting abt end-stage capitalism. Normal Weds evening.
I just called out a bunch of white cultural anthropologists I know from grad school on FB for being narrow-minded, patronizing, & slightly racist. Even tho it may burn some bridges, Im feeling pretty good abt it.
I put sunglasses on my dog Usma & now Im obsessed.
We found a chair that was originally in my dad's childhood home in IL. My childhood dog used to love sitting on it. Now its in my apt and my puppy has made it her own. Its nice when we can inherit furniture full of wonderful memories.
To be an archaeologist is to be comfortable with ghosts.
So utterly dumb. I am amazed tho that those who quote it think its deep philosophical statement, but its just made up by a fic author in his 40/50s who writes apocalypse scenario books.
Famous person whose job is to talk on TV thinks people who oversee our nuclear weapons program need to get "real jobs".

One of things I love about Spanish is that introducing myself as "Soy la Dra. MS" is completely acceptable (at least in #Mexico where I work). Makes me feel a little bit special π
Anyway, here are my dogs being cute.
Watching USA network & Independence Day is on. Given everything going on, Im going to enjoy this for the catharsis it is.
In all this darkness, let's celebrate a little light. Happy 1st birthday to this wonderful baby girl, Usnavy aka Princess Navi. She's had quite a 1st year, from being adopted to losing her brother and getting a new one to moving all the way frm Mexico to USA. Love you my darling baby girl!
So true! Id thought itd take them at least 3 months to get to concentration camps. But here we are already!
My partner tried to use that phrase "Hard times create strong men..." & when I objected then challenged me abt it as an archaeologist. I responded w/ history of US prez since the 80s, then told him that the guy who said that quote originally is a fiction author, not a historian. Archaeologist out:
Having looked thru this list, it is scary just how much research is going to be impacted by this. "Bias", "female", "socioeconomic"? JFC, these are all acceptable scientific terms, but now our research can be banned (essentially what this is) bc we are employing common academic terms.
As a native Chicagoan, I can confirm π€π
Even with the news abt fed grants, Im still going to work on an #NSF proposal, tho it feels atm like a useless endeavor. In the meantime, Im going to take comfort in these two baked potatoes. #academia #archaeology #dogs
Yeah, I think that's just going to be my vibe until I can escape this place.
Did you just hear abt the federal grants pause too?
It's almost as if "states' rights" only mean something when it comes to oppressing people, not uplifting them π€
