Ken Starr signed an email to Jeffrey Epstein 'hugs.'

Ken Starr.

History just did a backflip.

Absolutely not. Shame on every single sitting Labour MP who doesn’t come out against this today.

For Vladimir Mayakovsky

War winding down
Street through our trenches
Strong and nakedβ€”
Listen!
If it's any consolation
I'll be dead soon / you can always pay
Somebody the Devil follows
Day and night he is afraid To be alone / wearing me around
Like a necklace
Sets down his helmet
As I raise my fist this bug I'd squashed
Now turns to face me in the night
Mother / do you sing?
Don't let us poets fool youβ€”
Our laboratories equipped only
With illusion
Pity us
Fill your eyes with chandeliers
Cross the bridge to join the crowd

Awful, so sorry and vividly familiar.

A relative coming to tell me some big medical news and not being able to get the parking sorted and struggling with the horrible app crying so instead of giving her a.cup of tea in my flat im on the road talking her through the process is a particularly unpleasant memory

we ask history to stand in symbolically when justice in our lifetimes seems out of reach. the human lifespan is the real measure of history. eg, in a hundred years when no one alive remembers a 'normal' climate getting 'back' there won't seem like a real request.

I just smiled spontaneously at a man in a cafe and he looked really offended.

He was simultaneously annotating 'Orientalism' and tapping his feet to 'I Will Survive' over the cafe speakers. And mouthing the words.

I found this sweet!

This is "The Window" by Archibald Hattemore from 1931 which was the last year that Arch exhibited with the Group. The painting was once owned by the American fashion designer, Bill Blass. #ArchibaldHattemore #EastLondonGroup

I sometimes genuinely wonder if our society deserves to survive.

Thats a great fact! Interesting that kafka inspired poetry - in some ways the most grindingly prosy writer stylistically. Everything sounds like an asbestos manual (which i love about him). A great surrealist though yes!!

Kyla has a gift for surprise. Her last lines are like koans - something you can't put your finger on clicks into place. Your perception shifts. She's a fine, original contemporary voice.

Thank you so much for mentioning my poems, and in the same breath as Orphic Songs. I'm inspired by them too. A case study in Kafka's advice - 'Don't bend; don't water it down; don't try to make it logical; don't edit your own soul ... Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly.'

Asylum seekers, housed in hotels in Manchester, are reaching out in their own words to address the concerns of the local community.

Please take a minute to read their letter, & share it with the people in your life who need to hear the truth about the people they are protesting.

Minor procedure yesterday. Just me and one other man in the waiting room. He looks like he's been out all night - hair a tangle, suit a mess - and has fallen asleep in his chair. He's snoring. Then he suddenly gets up and leaves.

Nurse calls me through. There he is... the doctor.

I so wish brits, as a nation, were able to care as much about each other as we do about our pets. The scrupulous love we lavish on any animal in need as long as its not human makes me slightly sick.

my favourite moment is when lorraine gary gets on a boat, sails into the open ocean, unbuttons the top of her blouse and says - to the hormone-sensitive shark vengefully hunting her family - 'come and get me, bitch'

it's like, i know how to foil the shark's plan. stay on land. it is foolproof.

Poem

I heard a bee
and I walked into the ocean

The roses had all been cleared

The purple body of a jellyfish went by
and as the sun set to my right

I climbed out of the water awkwardly like a dog
