Continuing to discover parallels and make connections between Stoicism and the beliefs of Quaker Friends. It’s fascinating.

This is straight up nazi shit. The nazis published propaganda on Jewish crime. If this were blackcrimeuk or immigrantcrimeuk everyone would see it for the bigoted shit that it is.

Ben Mirov | ABRACADABRA

First, he pulled a rabbit out of his hat. Then he began to weep. He wept so profusely and with such sincerity that some of us felt uncomfortable and left. One woman offered her handkerchief, which he politely refused and continued to cry into his white gloved hands. Soon a little music began to emanate, and we realized this was the show we had come to see. A young girl appeared from out of nowhere. We humbly thank you for your patronage, she said. Please tip your waiter and drive home safe, and that was all. The red velvet curtain closed, and we sat together in the dim light of a few smoldering candles. Slowly, one by one, we returned to our lives, which were no longer sacred, but something like tar. None of us remembered who we had been, nor could we recognize what we’d become. Not even the wind seemed to remember its name and blew through the world like an anonymous ghost. Many of us went completely insane. A few people decided to start new lives. One woman became an exceptional baker. A man named Louis built a boat from his dreams. I decided to return to my life which I love more than anything, even fresh snow. Outside in the wan moonlight, I took a breath of cool night air and prepared myself to reappear.

Don’t Get Butt Hurt Over Them I was late to the local Hands Off protest earlier this April.

Unpopular opinion: that suit was bad ass, part of a long tradition of wonderfully, gaudy suits. Manuels and Nudies have surely been in the White House before. It’s just a bummer about Kid Rock, is all.

Storm preparations and supplies like water, fireproof and waterproof bags, first aid supplies, walkie talkies, etc.

Storms are about to get very bad in Arkansas. I am as prepared as I can be. But the only way I got there was to do it a little at a time.

Consider spending effort, mental energy, or money on some bit of preparedness for you or a friend every time you say β€œWe got lucky this time.”

Merton & Batman discuss war on a '78 Camaro atop Mt. Magazine, Logan Cnty, Arkansas.

"For the Church is Christ Himself, present in the world. He has redeemed, present in mystery, in poverty, in ways that are a scandal to human wisdom and to the ruthless leaders of men."

You absolutely do not need to be a philosopher to get the entirety of this book. It is full of references to modern philosophical perspectives issues we are dealing with now, which was wonderful. I underlined many philosophers working now to be able to look them up later.

HIGHLY recommend. Incredible book. A great tool for crystallizing perspectives, refining logic, and gathering ideas. It is challenging & invigorating. It hurts a bit, too. The mansplaining chapter is a fun & cutting chapter. The last chapter is a perfect crescendo of reason and action.

I know I would not be who I am now and would probably not have the life (the family!) I have now, but I often wish I’d had the resiliency I have now. I miss Art Center. If I could try it again (from Arkansas) I would. Not graphic design this time. My first love, illustration.

I was just reminded that on this date in 1997, Americana by Starflyer 59 was released. I bought it not too long after and specifically remember listening to it in the parking lot before class at Art Center College of Design.

I spilled my coffee getting out of the car.

I know this is extremely vulgar idealism, but I do think we should try to aggressively reassert the norm that lying is bad. Not in a "Four Pinnochios" fact-checking kind of way, but in a way that frames this kind of lying as moral degeneracy that is fundamentally corrosive to the human spirit.

@thestorygraph.com is a non-Bezos (so far as I know) enriching, trimmed-down but still robust alternative to Goodreads.

DOGE says it has terminated leases of 10 Arkansas-based federal agencies The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) says it has terminated leases for nearly a dozen federal agencies based in Arkansas.

DOGE continues to cut off access to quality of life resources for rural Arkansans.

I would like to know what relevant county commissioners, mayors, and other elected officials are going to do to ensure citizens have the resources these offices have been providing.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

We made this website to tell our story:
