I was in a chat for a radio show. The host of the show said that he had had a "semi-rogue" history teacher in high school. I said "He doubled as a stealth archer when they needed more dps." Nobody got it. I hate it when that happens.

Said all that to say this: misunderstanding phatics gets you avoided. I think when people say "sorry to hear that" they usually mean "I acknowledge your loss but have nothing to say about it However, I don't want you to think I wouldn't care, if I actually knew you well."

TIL the word "phatics." Good to have a name for them. I take them way too literally. If I say "sorry to hear that" I am. I try to say "I apologize" for the other use, unless it's something like bumping into someone. If I ask you how you're doing, I want to know. Yes, I'm an anomaly.

There is something flying around in here that I can't see and Ragnar keeps chatting at it. It's been a couple of days now. Wondering whether it's a bug or something extradimensional. Also wondering which would be worse.

Apt building watch party. Sitting between a very loud guy & a drunk, way too talkative woman. Went upstairs and got iced coconut rum; 2nd half was far more fun, but I don't drink often and now I feel like shit. Should've gotten high instead but didn't want to get the munchies around the snacks.
