Grammarly Is Facing a Class Action Lawsuit Over Its AI ‘Expert Review’ Feature The feature, which Grammarly shut down Wednesday, presented editing suggestions as if they came from established authors and academics—without their consent.

Earlier this month, WIRED reported on Grammarly’s controversial AI tool that presented editing suggestions as if they came from established authors and academics, without their consent.

Now Grammarly parent company Superhuman is facing a class action lawsuit over the tool.

One of their data security strategies is to keep all the back ups in a Honda Fit that is driving for 23 hours a day.

I'm just going to sit here and enjoy this all afternoon.

Graded my students' group projects today and one team went full fan-fiction. This has been one of the most hilarious things I've read in month. Like, coffee up the nose snorting with laughter hard.

Also they demonstrated having learned a ton about data management.

Grammarly Is Pulling Down Its Explosively Controversial Feature That Impersonates Writers Without Their Permission Shishir Mehrotra, CEO of Grammarly's owner Superhuman, has announced that the company is "disabling" a feature that impersonated journalists.

"Nonetheless, the company’s use of people’s names without their sign-off became a bitter flashpoint in the AI discourse."

Where TF did Zoom hide "ding if someone comes in /out" in the redesign?

I use Zoom for my office hours and I need that noise

I had someone ask me to edit his paper -- something I often do for junior colleagues. The paper was over 50% generated slop and it was obvious. I did not make it through a first read. If he couldn't be bothered to write it, why should I spend time editing.

When I read Jane Eyre, I'd read a chapter and then wander off for a week. It worked much better as a serial. (I still don't particularly care for any of the Brontes)

I have questions about the trademark implications of what Grammarly is trying to do with the "experts" nonsense when it tries to use the affiliation of the person while defining their expertise.

We want to pretend to have Experts and use all of their labor and innovation but not to have to pay them or get their actual buy in. Never mind that a significant number of users will then blame those experts if something were to go sideways.

Small Gray Cat in the kitchen with her evening snack: this is unacceptable I don't even LIKE this food.

Small Gray Cat, same food, moved to my office: SNARF

(She also has to finish her evening meds over two bites of organic canned chicken before she is allowed out of my office again)
