Arresting 400+ people for the "terrorist" offence of protesting against mass murder while large segments of the right are openly encouraging riots against immigrants is a tale of a very unhappy country and government.

Rightwingers warn of another blaze of summer riots in Britain – but they’re the ones striking the match | John Harris Grim predictions of β€˜societal collapse’ and β€˜civil war’ will hit home so long as Labour fails to address the country’s problems, says Guardian columnist John Harris

β€œThe spectacle of politicians knowingly peddling inflammatory narratives is nauseating – and… they are starting to look like desperate people throwing matches on kindling that refuses to ignite. That is a remarkable way for self-styled patriots to behave”

Indeed.

Brexit was an attempted counter-revolution against many of the changes this country has gone through since 1945. It has turned out to be a failure with elements of farce. This has driven many people on the Right completely mad.

Reform is flogging a champagne breakfast with Nigel Farage for as much as it costs to buy a decent house.

Naturally, the party is being accused of selling access, and influence, to the highest bidder...

This isn't new.

UKIP and the Brexit Party did it.

But boy oh boy the price has gone up

Corbyn’s blind spot The former Labour leader is repeating history...

The 2019 election result should have caused some deep introspection, and a basic amount of self-criticism, from Corbyn and the left.

Based on the launch of his new party, that simply hasn’t happened.

And humanitarian aid must be given immediate and unhindered access to Gaza to deliver what is urgently needed on the ground.

A ceasefire is needed now.

The Israeli government’s decision to further extend its military operation in Gaza must be reconsidered.

At the same time, there must be the release of all hostages, who are being held in inhumane conditions.

We know the answer to that don’t we!

The media can only deal in slogans and people who supply snappy sound bites!

Anyone with detailed policies or with solutions that recognise difficulties in implementation and nuance is just too much like hard work to explain!

Sad but where we are!

07.08.2025 12:17 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

To say this is somewhat at odds with the news and social media narrative would be the understatement of the year.

Also if Ed Davey is that popular vis Farage why is the mainstream media practically ignoring him?

07.08.2025 10:45 β€” πŸ‘ 387    πŸ” 118    πŸ’¬ 55    πŸ“Œ 6

The media coverage has no relation to number of votes, number of MPs, or popularity. Hence Kuennsberg's grudging "Congratulations, I suppose" to Ed Davey.

Farage used to be seen as slightly less odious than the awful Nick Griffin. Until the BBC treated him like a star.
