I'm convinced there's a fucked up libidinal component lurking under the conservative push to get rid of all modes of sexual attraction (dance, language, art, fashion, music, erudition) that aren't violent. True. It's just extra aggravating when it's people who are older or the same age as us and have also experienced the same things we have (or worse).

I'm particularly fond of the gaslighting that the current members like to throw around. I have to wonder how much of it is just that things have evolved in a way that they don't realize the changes or have absolutely decided to ignore/deny everything in the past?

The only common goal here is trying to make sure your kid doesn't starve to death, and often that involves finding somebody else who can afford to feed them.

What I take from this is that the guy knows jack about history. Unpaid apprenticeships, wards, servant contracts, etc were more the norm for hundreds of years. Some of it was paid, a lot of it was only paid in room, board, (& maybe learning a trade). Kids were under the guardianship of others.

And next question on that front is about the whole Danite thing. Is that still applicable, or has the church/membership recognized that murdering apostates is extremely inappropriate behavior? Church has moved on? Great. So change for the better can happen then? Then why double down on this now?

I'm tired of the whole "well, somebody genuinely believes something so they should get a pass on it" argument. Well, it's okay if somebody does something wildly monstrous because they believe it's the right thing to do? Uh huh, and where is the line on that?

Considering how many people have religious beliefs that involve killing people they see as infidels, causing bodily harm to other people, etc, there's a lot in the world of religion that should be legally frowned on.

Just because somebody believes something doesn't automatically make it ok.

Other side of the country from you, and it's been a ridiculous year on the tomato front. We didn't get to harvest any until Sept and we pulled our third one off the plant last night. I'm just hoping that Atlanta gets a late freeze this year so we can maybe get more tomatoes.
