I’m watching the Lilith Fair documentary on Hulu and Sarah McLachlan was explaining the β€œfair” part of the festival name and she said it was a play on wards, that β€œfair” could mean β€œequal”, β€œattractive”, or β€œa celebration”.

And I thought, β€œBut Sarah, β€˜fair’ can also mean β€˜white’.” πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ Ijs.

Slowly but surely I will read literally everything @nnedi.bsky.social writes. It is all brilliant. And yes, my statement includes her newest book The Space Cat, and Chicken in the Kitchen. #readMoreBooks #TBRpile #sciFiBooks #read

"...scars, pain, malfunctions, needed replacements, mistakes. What you were given. The finite. Rusted robots did not die in the way that humans did, but they celebrated mortality. Oh, she loved this story and how true it felt."

"Zelu opened her eyes and smiled. Fifteen minutes had flown by while she reread parts of her novel in her mind. The rusted robots in the story were a metaphor for wisdom, patina, acceptance, embracing that which was you,"

Saw a video about Dick Van Dyke turning 100. Then saw his many decades younger β€œwife” and just…put down my phone and picked up the book I’m reading.

A slightly out of focus photo of a Steller’s Jay in pine tree. 🌲 This was the best I could do because the bird didn’t stick around, haha. I nearly dropped my phone when I saw it! Look at that crest! It was blue and black. Gorgeous birdie.

When I was at the Oak Creek Vista Overlook near Flagstaff, I spotted a type of bird I’ve never seen before (if you have, good for you, but I’m talking about me right now, πŸ˜ƒ). A Steller’s jay!

There’s something profound & joyous about an encounter with a bird type you’ve never seen in person.

Twelve books (mostly novels), including my memoir. Plus an anthology.

I do not even know how to wrap my head around this…which is why I refused to look until now.

Like I said, 12 novels.

And then we get to hire lawyers and waste our time and money fighting billionaire level companies. You gonna do that? You ready for that? Ok.

It’s so ironic.
People pirated shit selfishly. All these years. We creatives have endured excuse after excuse for doing it. Writing cease and desist letters; it was like playing whack a mole. And that pirating is what allowed these AI companies to do even worse. Great job, people. Thanks.

I’d take THAT option (plus, real justice for doing it in the first place!!) over the pennies offered in the settlement any day. It’s not about money. Don’t β€œcrawl” my work. Period. I don’t want to be paid to allow AI to use my work, I do NOT WANT MY WORK USED TO TRAIN AI. I do not allow it.

This Anthropic settlement case…fellow authors, are any of you feeling rage? I have 12 books listed and money (I don’t CARE how many thousands, even millions) is NOT adequate compensation. What was stolen & used without my permission is priceless! Where is the option to scrub my work from AI?!
