again, if you put this into a work of fictional satire about the Presidency, people would think you're laying it on a little too thick

and yet

The Singularity is upon us: Apple's AI summarized a text message that read "I'm still down to clown if you are" to.... "clown event still possible."

for me “doom scrolling” is actually just the pathological hunt for the first piece of news that indicates this whole unbearable moment is about to unravel

We should have a world with zero oil and gas explosions, and the major governing question for our politics is how we do that.

My daughter reported that the ICE presence outside her school during recess last week involved ICE officers sitting IN AN ICE CREAM TRUCK. And this wasn't kids misinterpreting. We had an email from the school the day it happened; we just didn't get the ice cream detail in the email.

Well he licked all the hair off his ass until we got the Christmas tree out of the house and it’s been a slow process growing back to where he’s actually cute again

A grouchy, fluffy white cat poking his head out of a box that is too small for him. He should not be trusted with military or any other type of decision making

Even if Claude did have consciousness and anxiety (it doesn’t), so does Chester, and I wouldn’t let him choose bomb targets

Running for Congress on a platform of sneaking into Polymarket HQ and unplugging all their stuff. Overflow crowds at a local Knights of Columbus hall roar with delight as I promise to pour Florida's Natural Grapefruit Juice (with pulp) into the USB-C port of every computer in the damn place.

Yep. As always, the technical problem is really a political one

Yeah, the cases for which they’re proposing these data centers just don’t exist and are actively harmful. What we can get is figma for software. What we’re offered is CSAM generation, accountability hiding, and psychosis induction

I don’t feel good about this technology as it stands because the way it’s used is abhorrent. I do imagine a future in which these tools are applied to a specific use case and allow us to make better, safer software. Hard to imagine this future being approved by the decision makers w/corporate money

We have new tools. They have uses. The problem we run into is that proper use of these tools doesn’t eliminate any workers so it’s not considered proper use by the executive suites

Many original sins of backend development discipline but the one I see the most is the inability to acknowledge UI/UX as equally important with processes and principles we should learn from

This great thread makes a point I hadn’t seen before. Software engineers are now in a position familiar to UX but new to us: we have the ability to make and iterate on mocks before shipping. Instead of trying to condense our process and produce MORE, we could use the same timeframe to produce BETTER

The fate of fossil fuel systems in the "mid-transition" I talk with Emily Grubert about the hidden dangers of letting the free market manage the decline of our legacy energy infrastructure.

thanks to @volts.wtf for having me on to talk about coordinating and planning fossil phase out to build a better and actually decarbonized world. there‘s a lot we can do if we imagine a people-centered, service oriented future — and a LOT we miss if we don’t.

this is not an amount of money any individual or household should be able to have and we have to abolish both billionaires as a group and the economic system that makes them possible

We are the consequences We, collectively, are the condition that makes their defeat inevitable.

I have a new essay out today. For Welcome To Hellworld I wrote about my home, Minneapolis, again; I worked through some thoughts on why the concept of "victory" feels so hollow right now but why it might signal something far more important in the future.

Meghann Adams for California State Controller Meghann Adams is running for California State Controller. Meghann is running to make every public dollar work for the people, not the billionaires. California for the people, not the billionaires! Vot...

If you’re in California, vote Meghann Adams and consider volunteering for her campaign. It’s a poorly-understood role with a wide reach: www.meghann4ca.com
