In the 1850s, there were around 20 millionaires in the U.S. But with industrialization, monopolies, virtually no regulation, widespread corruption, by the end of the 1890s total millionaires in the US were over 4,000.

I encourage everyone to watch the movie “The Railway Men” on Netflix. It is a dramatization of the events of the day that Union Carbide released methyl isocyanate into the city of Bhopal India. 4000 killed and half a million exposed.
