Leicester Cathedral reveals sign language wedding held in 1576 Cathedral bosses believe the signed service could have been one of the first in England.

This is just so lovely. A reminder that there are still lots of good people about, even as the vicious & awful dominate the headlines, and that religious bodies can choose to be open and inclusive

They're Coming for Our Daughters The conservative plan to shrink girls’ futures

When I say they’re coming for our daughters, I’m not exaggerating. The powerful people obsessed with the (white) birth rate and enforcing β€˜traditional’ values and norms know they need young women to do itβ€”whether those young women like it or not. β€” @jessicavalenti.bsky.social

Friends, where do people post CFP these days? I've used H-Net. The fall of twitter history means it's much harder to reach people these days! I've had quite a few great abstracts for the below but I feel like I should be reaching more folks.

It’s not always easy to speak truth to power. More often than not, it’s downright dangerous. But history shows us when enough of us do it, we are unstoppable. In 1963 Fannie Lou Hamer shared just how scared she was in her fight for freedom, but her commitment to doing it anyway.

I wish I could remember who said they wish they had cultural power but they're trying to use political power in its place. They can remove the signs. They cannot remove all the histories, primary documents, and collective knowledge of the past, and their attacks underscore why these things matter.

A red square with "New Episode" as the header. Below are parallel images of a book cover image and text box. The book cover shows a giant wonder woman holding a small blond woman. The book is titled "Suffering Sappho! Lesbian Camp in American Popular Culture" and the author is Barbara Jane Brickman.

The text box reads: "In this episode Dr. Barbara Jane Brickman (University of Alabama) and Leah Cargin (University of Oklahoma and the Journal of Women's History) discuss Suffering Sappho! First, Brickman introduces the listeners to lesbian camp and then we discuss the many storied characters in the monograph. We share the zingers and one liners of actress Tallulah Bankhead and giggle about the camp antics of Superwoman's sidekick, Etta Candy."
