An Ode to the Artifacts of Inefficiency

I realized I need to have other strong flavors to balance the nattou. The 2nd recipe with the fried pork and aromatics was so good. The nattou flavor didn't stick out far above the others, it blended nicely and added a nice earthy flavor and was easy to eat. I wonder what I should try next...

Addendum to the nattou toast review - the mildness of the egg and toast wasn't enough to balance the nattou so the nattou flavor started to get overwhelming after halfway through. If you like nattou by itself that's no problem but for me it was too much.

2. Aromatic Fried Pork & Nattou over Rice
fried ground pork, garlic, ginger, green onion, nattou, soy sauce, included tare sauce, sesame oil, served over rice

This was DELICIOUS! I will def make this again. Stronger savory flavors of the aromatics + soy sauce balance the nattou flavor well. A+!

Tried 2 ways to eat it so far.
1. Nattou Egg Cheese Toast
nattou w/ included sauce + karashi poured over top of a fried egg on buttered toast with cheese

Tasted pretty good! However a bit past halfway through I got tired of the flavor and texture. Too much goo ratio happening + too mild for me?

I've tried store-bought nattou before, the Shirakiku Okame nattou that's pretty common, but I didn't quite like it. It's ben a while since then but I took the plunge and bought a pack of Mizkan Niawanattou to see if it lives up to it's name of being less odorous. It does! It's much easier to eat.
