#nzpol Donโ€™t get me started on the Electoral Roll registration changes. This is a ham-fisted effort to disenfranchise people who have other shit going on in their lives. This smacks of risible UK Tory efforts to off-roll people without the right kind of ID.

"Federated Farmers and Beef + Lamb says yes, because methane is much shorter lived than the other main heating gases, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide."

Yes,methane is "short lived".It breaks down.

It breaks down into CARBON DIOXIDE, WATER VAPOUR, and OZONE - all of which are greenhouse gases!

A timely reminder for Australian voters, too, from this New Zealander writing about the NZ negative experience of privatisation of publically-owned assets.

Sex work is "real" work.

Sex workers are "real" workers - and are entitled to the same freedom from abuse, harassment and exploitation as everyone else.

This is only as controversial, or weird and awkward, as we all choose to make it.

Pass it on.

Funny how, after attacking women's pay equity, with their leader's press sec just revealed to have been an utter creep taking nonconsensual pictures of sex workers and random women at the gym...

... suddenly Collins goes all in on anti-trans culture-warring in oral questions.

Distraction, much?

The National governmentโ€™s decision to cut $20 million towards Mฤori Trades Training in the budget will mean a further drop in apprentice numbers that we desperately need.

In 2024, apprentice numbers declined by a further 11.8%. Thatโ€™s more than 8,500 apprentices that will not be working here, on top of those that have already left for Australia. This cut only makes this shortage worse, despite national unemployment being at 5.1%.

Minister Penny Simmonds has cancelled a plan that was addressing the financial viability of the vocational sector and has replaced it with legislation that provides no details and does not give the sector any certainty. She has failed to deliver on her promises.

Minister Simmonds needs to front up and explain why she hasnโ€™t ensured the continuation of this programme that would help more Mฤori train and contribute to alleviating critical workforce shortages.

We know that Aotearoa New Zealand faces workforce shortages across the trades sector, as many of our young tradespeople are choosing to leave for Australia. A vital part of ensuring that we have the workforce we need to build the future New Zealand is that there are accessible opportunities for training and re-training, including those that are tailored for Mฤori.

That is why Labour was proud to fund the Mฤori Trades and Training Programme alongside the Apprenticeship Boost Scheme. The programme helped to ensure that Mฤori organisations could offer employment-based training alongside support services that would help people to see a programme through to completion and make them more employable.

Nats: We are going to chuck 17 and 18 year olds off Jobseekers

Labour: We are going to help young people into apprenticeships

Which of these strategies do you really think works? #NZPol

This bill is as harmful if not more harmful than the Treaty Principles Bill. It must be stopped.
This is where we need to bring our HIKOI ENERGY.

This one's very important for EVERYONE - the RSB opens us up to an American hellscape with many unintended consequences. It's part of the Coalition agreement, and they passed the first stage through urgency.

But this Select Committee process is arguably MORE important than the TPB. SUBMIT.

What an incredibly facile understanding of our Parliamentary democracy.

All MPs can vote whichever way they like.

They *choose* to toe the party line on most instances, meaning

" ... I cannot vote other than along party lines"

is really

" ... I am only here to follow orders".

Once we know exactly how many billions were stolen from the Pay Equity Fund nothing else matters. Not if it was moved to education, or police, or health - they had to pay for all of those things anyway, they didn't have to pay for them of the backs of women #NZPol

"If your party won't fight for you, why are you still fighting for them?"
The scene below shows a person running away with the goose chasing them, with the words:

"WHY ARE YOU STILL FIGHTING FOR THEM?"

If your political party isn't fighting for your rights, find one that will.

RNZ headline wich a picture of Christopher Luxon, imagine a thumb that has been hit by a hammer a few times, "'No-brainer' : Luxon says that raising the super again on cards for election". What an absolute cockwomble. I am pretty sure if he had to dig holes or do any sort of manual labour to pay his way in the world he would not be proposing raising the super age. But as usual it is make the poor work longer and harder to pay for tax cuts for the rich.

I'm done, as a nation we all need to take shit more seriously.

We should all educate ourselves on politics and become active members of democracy.
