ubuntu is basically "debian, but more responsive to customer demand" in my mind, which either makes it a slam dunk or makes you scream, and that should make the choice obvious

assuming "aging macbook air" implies intel, I'm a pretty big fan of debian as Your Basic Linux. bit more work than say Mint (which is prob fine), but unlikely to surprise you and every LLM is trained on all the things about it. I think asahi is your only (maybe most mature) option for apple silicon

between this nonsense and lighting github on fire I'm excited to think that I might see microsoft die before I do

like I don't recommend it, but I also don't recommend getting scared of browning chicken thighs skin down good and hard

it was Really Upsetting for about a quarter of a second, and then it stopped. I _might?_ be able to feel it just a little when I blink, but that could just be my imagination

I'm trying not to think too hard about the mechanics of what happened, guessing "eyes are wet and water takes a lot to heat"

I don't recommend getting a splash of hot chicken fat in your eye

honestly it's not even on my radar. a quick google suggests meringues and other whipped egg white things... wonder how it'd work in a soufflé

Boston Legacy’s Tattoo Glory Hole (imagine that)

Thanks to @jackiedigital.bsky.social for providing a quote about the experience.

sometimes I watch videos on, like, the Hyatt Regency walkway collapse as a perverse morale booster, just to remind myself that trad engineers fuck up and don't bother to measure stuff in the name of implementation convenience too

first read that as "this year" and it also works

glad I'm not the only one who sees this

I mean, you're not at all wrong, but I was thinking in terms of incidents and latency and packet loss this evening vs this afternoon

am I pattern-matching on too little data or does the internet seem a bit unhealthy to anyone else?

Here's a tiny bit of hopium:

In 2024 we were planning on adding 160 GW of renewable energy to the grid by 2030.

As of the start of this year, we had added 100 GW and are planning on adding 220 GW more by 2030.

(In 2022 we planned for 60 GW in 2030. We hit that by the end of 2023)

I didn't start out wanting that imagined quote to be so tsundere coded but by the time I got halfway through it was obvious

my guess is that "kibble" is an irony shield to allow a Certain Type Of Guy to cook themselves meals without engaging with weird gender hangups around "cooking"

"haha I'm not like, _cooking_ or anything, this is like dog food lol, baka!"

I know, it's classic clickbait and not reflective of the memory or self-awareness of the authors or editors

but like, when I was feeding myself on stuff like this we called it "meat slop" and some dude got modestly internet famous for his recipe, twenty years ago
