Leaving you all with this for the weekend. See you next week. open.substack.com/pub/fieldnot... - Of course I'm now going to read this book.
Isn't that the actual tool they have at their disposal. Don't be an asshole.
And if there was an opposition party this report would be used as a consistent and constant cudgel against the administration.
If US democracy was functional, this would have led to an immediate impeachment and removal from office.
And thanks is a small thing but the vast majority of people don't bother. Thankless work is not sustaining work.
there are so many moving parts and the constant in my experience is financial costs.
Thanks for reading and good luck with your primer.
That's the part that makes me want to never organize events again - the unkind people.
Yup. recently we decided to just abandon 2 in person gathering and moved both to virtual. People who really wanted an in person opportunity were NOT understanding.
It's already hard to find accessible spaces for in person events and many of those spaces [if they even have the right tech] charge A LOT for tech needed for hybrid events.
And few people want to hear about the difficulties.
Event planners will attest to this. Finally, people are often not at all considerate to event planners. Most people only share their complaints. Almost no one shares any praise or basic gratitude. We're living through difficult time in general and this extends to planning events too.
I do want to say as someone that organizes both in person & virtual events that it is actually not easy at all to organize hybrid events. They are costly, for one & many people don't want to pay for events. Secondly, a virtual event is different than an in person one so it's like planning 2 events.
CNN at the site of an Israeli strike in Lebanon that killed 9 people, including 5 children:
"We're told it was a yogurt factory by the neighbors here."
"The children's bodies, we're told, are in pieces and are going to take a while to identify the DNA so that they can actually do a burial."
The rise of online vibrant events in early Covid offered a lot of hope for disabled/chronically ill people who have access issues attending IRL events (including going into a flare later). Anti-Zoom reactive sentiment pushed a lot of people into being more isolated again.
The government won on most of its charges, including convicting defendants for moving a box of radical zines.
It's Friday evening and I sometimes forget that there are people on the other side of these posts, lol. So deleted because I don't have any energy to deal with any replies. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
hyper-individualism is really killing people.
I have two organizing meetings this weekend. But in between them, I am hoping to go see "Ideas of Africa: Portraiture and Political Imagination" at the Museum of Modern Art, an exhibition that explores how photography shaped ideas of African identity during the era of decolonization.
