The subsequent Tribunals lead by the US brought 3887 cases though about 3400 were dropped. 489 cases went to trial, involving 1672 defendants. A total of 1416 of them were convicted; under 200 were executed & 279 got life the rest got shorter terms. By the 1950s almost all of them had been released.

Of the 24 defendants in the Nuremberg Trials, 2 died before their trials, 3 were acquitted, 4 imprisoned on terms between 10 an 20 years, 3 imprisoned for life, 12 sentenced to death (of which 10 were executed, 1 killed himself before execution, and the last being sentenced in abstentia

A former colleague of mine died like this. Though he did say that he wanted his death to be "like something from a bad slapstick". Everyone agreed that while it wasn't a piano or anvil dropped on his head, he'd be pretty happy to go out like this
