Back in the day, Twitter used to be really good if I set up a thread to connect freelancers with clients. Let's see if Bluesky can do it.

Clients: if you're looking for freelancers/contractors, get in the comments

Freelancers/contractors: get in comments

Everyone else: boosts appreciated

Handling routes in JavaScript projects | Sean C Davis JavaScript frameworks that use file-based routing require an extra layer of care to help you keep your sanity when developing.

An interesting run-down to the inner workings of a routing system.

"Is it good at generating spam or detecting it?" is such an interesting question. Being good at both leads to this weird AI paradox state. 🤔

I suspect it's circumstantial, varying based on context and human input.

This is a really fun, crowd-sourced road trip using Google street view. Users can vote on which direction to go next. It looks like an unmoderated chat though, so be warned.

Love that! It can be very good to take a break from the public eye for a moment to regroup and come out strong again.

I see this a lot with musicians who have been able to make decades-long careers last while feeling relatively fresh.

jumpy - Visual Studio Marketplace Extension for Visual Studio Code - Jumpy provides fast cursor movement, inspired by Atom's package of the same name.

This is the extension if you want to try it out. I mapped custom shortcuts to make it feel more natural (for me) to use.

I find myself rarely using the *go-to-line* feature in VS Code (fork), but I use the Jumpy extension constantly. Love being able to move around the editor without leaving the keyboard or learning vim. 😅

Of course, the question that inevitably comes up is: Could AI give you the same result faster?

The results were interesting. I'm writing up a summary of the process and the thoughts it evoked. Expecting to share that next week.

My first five minutes in Astro | Sean C Davis How I set up new Astro projects using the delightful Astro CLI experience, while applying my tastes and preferences.

Using the @astro.build CLI is a delightful experience. I tend to spin up new example sites regularly, and I've found that I follow the same few steps every time, starting with the minimal framework template.

What steps do you take when you kick off new projects?

16.05.2025 15:06 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

It is a taste thing, for sure. I was trained in Rails, and really loved that I could write `account_users_path(account, user)` and it worked, regardless of what the static segment names were, based on a single routes config file.

16.05.2025 14:59 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

That's a nice feature because it picks up any adjustments to the file-based configuration.

What I was solving for is that when the filename changes, anything referencing it needs to change, too. In theory, that's easy enough. Trickier when sites get big, routes require interpolation, etc.

Handling routes in JavaScript projects | Sean C Davis JavaScript frameworks that use file-based routing require an extra layer of care to help you keep your sanity when developing.

File-based routing has its benefits, but one of the major tradeoffs is how easy it becomes to introduce broken links.

On most projects with more than a few pages, I consolidate routes into a source of truth.

I've found that this works with most frameworks lacking an opinion on the subject.
