I have a very experienced friend who is on the lookout for their next opportunity, but can’t post about it.

They’re highly experienced and talented in anything developer relations in the web and dev tooling space with a particular passion and skill for education.

Drop me a DM or email!

I’ve noticed there are a lot of conferences in Japan. A group of organizers is sharing a practical ‘conference playbook’ so new events don’t repeat the same mistakes.

Style Headings using the CSS :heading pseudo-class Use the :heading pseudo-class to style all headings (h1-h6) with a single CSS rule. Reduce repetition in design systems and component libraries while maintaining consistency.

🎉 New Blogpost 🎉

Style Headings using the CSS :heading pseudo-class

CSS just got tidier.

Say goodbye to verbose selector groups and hello to cleaner, more intentional styling for your design systems.

And as for the less mundane bits, realising the homunculi with stop motion puppets was a stroke of genius. There's a real physicality to them (particularly in the later episodes) that is really charming

The first thing I did last year was run | Henry From Online On the eve of the new year, 2025, I was possessed by the spirit of adventure, and drove to Wyoming in the middle of the night. Hijinks, as is eternally their way, ensued.

here‘s a website that tells a story about an ill-starred and foolhardy road trip :)

"a design engineer"

these jobs are for humans, stop trying to take them from us

Accessibility For Everyone by Laura Kalbag Read the book online for free.

My book, Accessibility For Everyone, is now free and online as a website.

The book was first published by A Book Apart in 2017 but it holds up! It covers web accessibility for designers, developers, content folks, and really everyone who works in tech.

Phantom Obligation Why RSS readers look like email clients, and what that's doing to us.

I love this thoughtful and beautifully presented piece by @terry.social.godier.me.ap.brid.gy (found via @tyfromtheinternet.com’s newsletter), on the anxiety of unread counts and the questionable evolution of app design.

“Phantom obligation — the guilt you feel for something no one asked you to do.”

Yeh, I can definitely see why it's so highly thought of! I don't think it'll be taking over from any of the popular frameworks, which is a shame, but at the same time I'm not sure it needs to. It's pretty mature and easy to use so if it fit for a personal or client project, I'd be happy to use it

It's also funny how my client work has made dipping back into Elixir less daunting. Over the last year or so I've been contracting with a company who uses Elm for their frontend and that has helped me finally wrap my brain around the whole functional programming thing

I have been messing about with Elixir and Phoenix again and I have to say it's oddly refreshing to use a convention-based batteries-included framework after so many years of the JS ecosystem. Have yet to give Liveview a proper go though
