can I ask what you do on iNat for hours? I use it to identify and document what I see on our farm, but I don't know what else to do with it.

We were in Alaska last month (first time) and it seemed like the entire population of the Kenai Peninsula wanted to tell us what a bummer it would be for us to miss fireweed season. 😁

About 50% of the US rice crop gets exported. California medium grain rice is usually what Japan buys. Long grain from the US South (inc. Texas) has different markets.

in fact, Japan bought 25,000 metric tons of CA rice LAST WEEK. And is expected to seek another 26,000 MT next week.

This is such bullshit. We sell a lot of California rice to Japan every year. And there is an entire branch of USDA that tracks it (NASS).

Just got back from a week on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. Absolutely spectacular place! Kayaking in a fjord has long been a bucket list item for us. So grateful to have been able to experience it, while also mourning how fast this landscape is changing.

A researcher checks the sonic anemometer equipment in an almond orchard on a sunny day.

New research from @ucanr.bsky.social and UC Davis scientists demonstrates that regenerative management in almonds leads to improvements in soil moisture retention and does not result in increased evapotranspiration. Get the details at doi.org/10.3733/001c...
