Finally, Taney Street no more | Editorial Signs for the Philadelphia street previously named after Chief Justice Roger B. Taney, author of the infamous "Dred Scott" decision, are coming down at last.

"Beyond being a proud moment for the city, the successful effort to rename Taney Street is a reminder that things can change. And that, like LeCount and Catto, we should work toward a brighter and fairer future."

Taney signs have been replaced with LeCount signs.

Taney was the Supreme Court justice that authored the Dred Scott decision which denied the rights of citizenship to people of African descent. Taney’s own family testified in support of the name change.

The street now honors Caroline LeCount.
