Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothingβ€”to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-beingβ€”is unconscionable.

University of Washington goalkeeper Mia Hamant passed away following a valiant battle with kidney cancer. The Seattle Reign and Orlando Pride players honor her legacy by wearing orange ribbons tonight 🧑

Our thoughts are with her family, teammates and the entire Husky community.

What is your nickname in college?

(We’re supposed to answer in the form of a question, right?)

In Willmar, a soccer field becomes a refuge from heated immigration debate Most of this varsity boys team hails from immigrant families. This season, they learned to live and play as a team against the backdrop of a nationwide immigration crackdown.

Love the stories of small Minnesota towns being reinvigorated by immigrant families

We couldn’t survive without these neighbors, and we should protect them

They pay into our society and deserve respect

This post is just β€œduping delight” / β€œduper’s delight.” If you search the term, you’ll find it’s a mix of joy and contempt that a narcissist or sociopath feels when they deceive or manipulate others. Not a victim post. Just a smirk from a pathetic little loser who manipulates strangers for kicks.

Seems like they object to UEFA and the Danish police rejecting the club’s usual international away game ticket allocation procedures in favor of a stricter policy.

Ok, so here’s my question for you: How does Melville use the cetology of whales contribute to Moby Dick’s literary perfection?

14.10.2025 16:55 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

You just reduced my argument to one point. It’s not only bad because it’s inaccurate

14.10.2025 16:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

In order to write that segment, the author had to do scientific research/observation, regurgitate it, and add a sentence or two to duct tape it into the narrative. The author did that. If we can’t talk about the author, we’ll spin in circles forever.

14.10.2025 16:00 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Seems like we’re almost there, but not quite. I’m talking about authorial choicesβ€”specifically, Melville’s choice to disrupt the major narrative of his book, for an extended time, with a segment that had little/no value by any measure. Melville made a poor choice.

14.10.2025 16:00 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Why limit yourself? I do both. Sometimes simultaneously. πŸ’ͺ

14.10.2025 07:27 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

If Melville wrote a short digression on the science of THE Whale’s species, in the voice of whatever character, fine. But instead he lectured long about whales (+porpoises, dolphins), listing a dozen or more species and their attributes.

14.10.2025 05:06 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Any revelation of his narrator’s relationship to scientific thinking could have been made without a lengthy research dump that fully interrupts the narrative.
