To keep tabs on Team MAGA, I periodically check in on the work of Ben Garrison. I couldn't let this week go by without checking to see what he'd have to say about Trump raping children and sucking cock. This week's cartoon is about 300 ostriches that were killed because of a rumor of bird flu.

The impressive part is how the studio got one twenty years before they were painted.

Anchoring all this is the astonishing Tatiana Maslany, who creates the most distinctive, most fully-fleshed woman in jeopardy I've seen since Rosemary's Baby.

It's a single-set movie, but it never gets visually tiring, just from the way Perkins's camera chooses to look at objects. The editing and camera placement subtly reflect the protagonist's growing sense of bewilderment and disorientation.

I loved, loved, loved Osgood Perkins's fascinating new movie Keeper. On a purely filmic level, Perkins is developing a cinematic vocabulary unlike anything I've ever seen. He generates over an hour of suspense almost entirely from unusual camera placement and editing.

Watching Howard Hawks's landmark 1932 gangster movie Scarface, my new favorite moment is Boris Karloff, playing a tough-talking North Side gangster, wrapping his distinctive embouchure around the line "Hey you guys!"
