I've been a Stack Overflow employee for 12+ years.
The project of moving all apps out of the datacenters took about 2 years and involved dozens of people. Great team effort! (now we have new and even more exciting projects to work on)
(All equipment was destroyed. It wasn't worth re-selling (most was beyond Dell's support limits) and, of course, destroying assures our customer's PII (personally identifiable information) was not exposed.)
This month I finished shutting down the last of Stack Overflow's datacenters. Here's some pics from the final days as we de-cabled, un-racked, and shipped everything off to the disposal company.
