Read @inaeoh.bsky.social on the politics of maternal ambivalence… and the apparent lack thereof in the pronatalist wing of the Trump admin:

THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!
Writing this was personal for me: Much of the rationale behind the directive was the Supreme Court ruling against affirmative action at Harvard and UNC (my alma mater!). By presenting Asian Americans as facing discrimination in the admissions process, it unjustly generalized our cultural identities.
Actually wrote a bit about that framing in my very first article for Mother Jones. I interviewed Hao Wu and Miao Wang, the directors of the documentary "Admissions Granted," exploring the story and arguments behind the case and how it contributes to the ongoing erasure of historical inequities.
criterion channel rn has a collection called YEARNING and a collection called STUNTS! and between them exits the entire spectrum of human art and emotion
Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
Back in January, I spoke with historian Behrooz Ghamari about the people protesting in Iran and the government's violent suppression of them. The devastation is out in the open, and "everyone who wants to see change needs to face this politics of brutality." www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
"Grab em' by the pussy" and Trump's call with the men's hockey team aren't the same. One is sexually violent, the other a lame dig.
But I argue here they share a familiar misogyny: That men are owed by women to accept insulting banter. That they are entitled to have their disrespect overlooked.
I wrote about Alysa Liu and how refreshing it is to see an athlete who enjoys what they do as an art and self-expression in the landscape of sports where being a great athlete is always presented as a miserable and joyless exercise flaminghydra.com/issue-509/?a...

For @revealnews.org, I spoke with Postal Service workers about the big and small ways ICE raids are impacting my hometown of Minneapolis.

ok, whoa. the DOJ just told me that the unredacted version of the document in question contains an image of a victim’s face overlayed on the face of the Mona Lisa image. so, that's why it's redacted. jesus christ
Rep. Pat Ryan says he will donate all campaign funds he accepted from execs at companies with ICE contracts to local immigrant groups, per the Daily Freeman.
This came just days after For the Many, a Hudson Valley org advancing progressive policies, called for Ryan to turn over Palantir money.
ICE tear gassed a bunch of children on Saturday. This was a massive escalation of force. They were shooting tear gas at the back of the crowd, it took these unmasked people maybe 3-5 minutes in the cloud of tear gas to escape in without trampling. www.theverge.com/policy/87278...
they should make a movie series about how it’s irresponsible to use technology to mess with the natural order of things for profit
SCOOP: Palantir's AI has been deployed at HHS since last March to audit grants, grant applications, & job descriptions for anything related to "DEI" or "gender ideology"
The goal was to ensure compliance with 2 of Trump's executive orders:

Oscar nominated co-writer of It Was Just An Accident has just been arrested in Iran. Statement by Jafar Panahi:
SCOOP: 404 Media is publishing a version of the user guide for ELITE, a tool Palantir made for ICE which brings up dossiers on individual people and provides a “confidence score” of their address.

We tried the carrot. Here’s the stick.
#ICE is ramping up attacks against immigrants and American citizens— and #Palantir is their surveillance backbone.
