Too many words spoken, too much time spent listening to others, too much coffee drunk, too long spent sitting in unfamiliar rooms, too many waking hours, too many thoughts on mundane matters, too much hope, and too much self-comfort.

I spent three days watching Mount Fuji — the clouds kept changing, but the mountain never did.
That’s when I finally understood Hokusai.

📚💙 Book 25 The Origins of Totalitarianism

Darkness is still with us, yet the worst has not come, for we keep reading, thinking, and reaching out to one another.

📚💙 Book 24 The Stranger
After finishing The Stranger, I recalled Camus’s grave in a small French town—overgrown and silent, an echo of the absurdity and solitude he wrote.

The true Fifth Risk is when rulers choose shamelessness and the people choose ignorance.

💙📚Book 21. "Stoner" John Williams

His life was quiet and unremarkable, shadowed by silent sorrow and gentle surrender—yet he walked it through with calm dignity. It was an era that allowed such lives to be lived.

This painting remained unknown for many years: Italian artist Federico Faruffini never exhibited it during his lifetime, nor did he mention it in his correspondence, as if this work exclusively belonged to his private sphere.

The date of its creation is also uncertain, due to the lack of a clarifying bibliography; however, due to the recurrence of certain female subjects in the artist's works, it can be placed somewhere around 1865. This is the date that appears on an etching entitled "Clara," which, despite some slight variations, bears an extraordinary resemblance to the painting.

The woman portrayed within is inspired by a literary character named Clara from the novel "Fosca" by Iginio Ugo Tarchetti. The image has a modern appearance, thanks to the close-up view, almost photographic style, and the open-minded yet refined choice of subject.

Clara is pictured from behind, reading a book seated on a red couch, in front of a table full of scattered volumes. Between the fingers of her left hand, she holds a lit cigarette while holding the open book with her right hand.

The pictorial style alternates between Romantic influences, such as the bohemian setting of the living room, and new influences from Milanese scapigliatura. The delicate hint of her complexion, a retained feature from the Romantic tradition, is transformed through quick, confident uses of color in this still-life depiction, with the books resting on the desk and the pansy flower in a glass of water.

In 1867, at the Paris Salon, he was awarded a first prize medal for a paintings of "Borgia" and one of "The death of Ernesto Cairoli." However, Faruffini is believed to have killed himself in Perugia in 1869 at the age of 38 due to a lack of recognition and financial difficulties.

Paris knows how to end a day—with light, with silence, and with a kind of beauty that doesn’t ask for attention, but earns it.
