First run of the season shenanigans. This was a low and slow shake out to see how everyone is doing. I will do a few more of these 3 milers and then decide how I want to run everyone for the season. Some fun passes with friends. ❀️

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

A black and white dog in a blue harness is barking at a person on a bike. The person on the bike is looking down at the dog with what I hope is a patient expression but honestly he is very loud and silly. The dog is attached to the bike to do the sport called bikejoring.

"Yeah I can definitely do the demo of bikejoring in this open field for our educational presentation."

We did eventually get going. Nothing like waiting for your dog to figure it out with a crowd of folks watching.

we're not going to have a good, sustainable social media site as long as it is made or run by tech people. that is why I am building my own out of water, small rocks, moss, snails, brightly colored shrimp, one of those sucking fish, a mermaid statue. I'll be honest, this may actually be an aquarium.

A black dog stares up at the camera with brown eyes. The pitch of his eyebrows conveys a slightly concerned expression. In reality, he just wanted me to turn off the rain.

Madilyn Mae! She is a delightful folk-sy artist who has a lot of metaphors and symbolism in her lyrics. Sold out show and MOSTLY folks about half my age in attendance. The future is bright. The kids (including mine) knew all the words and sang them with love for the meaning.

Born and raised and never really felt a want to leave ❀️ We eventually moved out of town a bit so we could have livestock, but still go into town weekly to enjoy the food, music, and shops.

Last Friday attended an all ages concert on Hawthorne full of teenagers. There was a puppet show. The venue handed out free water so nobody got dehydrated. Walked a half mile to our car at 11pm then got coffee and ice cream. Drove home at 1am. Lovely time in Portland, as always.

I've been coming here for over 20 years after late night events in Portland and it hasn't changed. I love this city so much. The people. The places. Home.

The horrors persist and a female dog does not care. Horrors or not, we are on a schedule.

"I don't know which way to go, so I continue forward,
The pure and utter horror, realizing I left me behind.
And I'm lonelier than ever, but I guess that's for the better,
Time to kill and bills to pay and plenty things to write."

Good Morning on the start of the ARSA Nationals in Oregon! We are not competing this year but will be volunteering our time.

ARSA stands for American RettΓΌngshunde Sport Assoc- is a German dog sport in the vein of Shutzhund/IPO that focuses on Search and Rescue foundations instead of protection.

It has been a comfort to read through history right now- not necessarily of the US - but global histories. It helps ground me in understanding humanity strives to survive, persist and understand itself.

Discovering my own ignorance has always been a pleasant reminder there is always more to learn.

I've been trying to read more non-fiction and realized recently I have very little historical or cultural knowledge of India, but interface with people from the area daily at work. I looked up MIT's publicly accessible class on S. Asian history and got some books from the library to hyperfocus on.

Whatever you do, please don’t stop reading.

Read for joy. Read for education. Read for resistance. Read banned books. Read books by marginalized authors. Read about experiences that differ from your own.

Just. Keep. Reading.
