*Viserys hears the arguments against his orders and then fixes Alyssa with a stern glare as she spits the High Valyrian insult at Alicent. He is appalled at her vulgar language and knows full well where she learned it. As Daemon speaks to Alyssa in High Valyrian, he makes a point to mentally -

*Viserys sends for both Aegon and Rhaenyra. He has important news to share with them. He is, however, unsure how they will take it. Both his son and his daughter have been known to be –

He never wavers in his determination that Rhaenyra is to succeed him on the Iron Throne. Otto hatches a secret plot to install Viserys's oldest son Aegon on the throne upon Viserys's death. Viserys is blind to the plotting of his Hand. Even at the end, he holds fast to Rhaenyra as his heir.

He does have children by Alicent but chooses to continue to dote on Rhaenyra and her children. This leaves him blind to infighting within the family for some time. He eventually has enough of it and declares that it must cease. He fails to stop the infighting, and by extension the resulting war.

Viserys becomes annoyed with Daemon's fixation on Rhaenyra. He ends up wedding her to Corlys's son Laenor, repairing the rift between them. When Rhaenyra has children, they are declared her heirs by Laenor and Viserys will hear nothing to the contrary. Nor will Alyssa, apparently. She defends them.

This draws annoyance from Viserys, who refuses to step in and offer aid for quite some time. When he does finally offer aid, Daemon rejects it and deals with the situation himself with only the Velaryons on his side. They prevail and he returns home victorious, welcomed by Viserys.

He does eventually take a second wife, choosing Otto's daughter Alicent over Lord Corlys and Princess Rhaenys's daughter Laena, thus snubbing Corlys. This causes a rift between them. It leads to Corlys helping Daemon deal with the conflict in the Stepstones behind Viserys's back.
