Excerpt from the BBC’s Westminster Hour interview with Neil Kinnock (as reported by the New Statesman), reading: Keir Starmer’s week begins with a stern warning from Neil Kinnock, former Labour leader, that he needs to turn things around within months. Speaking to the BBC’s Westminster Hour, Kinnock called for Starmer to “demonstrate that he is authentically very Labour, with a set of principles that are practical in their application and a determination to put them into full effect.” He said “he’s got to act quickly in order to establish clearly a direction and purpose now.”

Just hours later, Starmer tweets a bunch of vague statements (that fail to articulate anything) and says “That’s the purpose of my government”.

The guy just doesn’t get it, does he?

BBC story: "The Metropolitan Police says it will no longer investigate non-crime hate incidents to allow officers to "focus on matters that meet the threshold for criminal investigations". The announcement came as the Met confirmed it was dropping a probe into Father Ted creator Graham Linehan after he was arrested at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of inciting violence in posts on X. Mr Linehan was arrested by five officers on 1 September after arriving on a flight from the US, sparking a backlash from some public figures and politicians. The Crown Prosecution Service said it had decided no further action should be taken in the writer's case following a "careful review" of the evidence supplied by police. In a statement on Monday addressing non-crime hate incidents, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said it "understands the concern" around the case. "The commissioner has been clear he doesn't believe officers should be policing toxic culture war debates, with current laws and rules on inciting violence online leaving them in an impossible position," the spokesperson said."

Curious how the Graham Linehan story is being spun, including by the BBC. He was arrested on suspicion of the criminal offence of inciting violence; but the BBC is now conflating his incitement with a "non-crime hate incident".

Like, I mean, if you’re an outside political observer, of course you will point out that 15% is an outlier. But it seems odd to place that expectation on Polanski. *Of course* he’s going to celebrate that poll result and use it to build momentum for his project.

Polanski’s role isn’t to give sober analysis of the polls. It’s to craft a certain narrative, which he’s doing here by weaving in the results of that poll. Greens being able to replace Labour *becomes* true if voters and members have the confidence they can safely support the Greens.

Question - if wealth taxes don’t work and raise only paltry amounts, how come whenever we start seriously discussing them rich people start pouring resources into trying to start race and class wars as a distraction?
