I know having things like a knowledge of British politics that would get you a pass mark at A-level is unfashionably elitist these days, but you’d hope a major party would be able to find space for a few people of that level.

Correct!
lol, urgh, no!
Like telling ICE agents you aren't mad?
Reluctant as I am to compare Mr Trump to a fine feline, what we see here is basically a cat that has climbed a tree, is sitting at the end of a branch, and while it wishes to assure you it is 100% certain of its ability to get down, feels it would be prudent to call the fire brigade at this point.
It is unseasonably warm here! I think Clara was quite taken aback by the brightness, but she took it in her stride. (Weirdly, the thing that probably fascinated her most was watching people go up an escalator in a shopping mall at the end of the walk!)
Star Lane DLR to the Olympic Park along the River Lea is a lovely pram-friendly walk in the warm spring sunshine. Particularly enjoyed the cormorants perching on each of the cowls of the Three Mills oast houses.
Nice idea. I’ve had to go back and look at what I decided when I wrote my masters thesis, which was literally on the question of these sorts of votes - I opted for referendums.
Shocking admission.
Theoretically, now it is the 4-times an hour SL7, it ought to be much improved…
London’s least frequent bus service isn’t the one you think it is (if you have ever thought about it, that is). busandtrainuser.com/2026/03/14/i...
Because otherwise the subs are going to have to decide what the style guide position on the plural is.
It was a solid two miles walk across heathland. It wasn’t exactly the Great Trek, to be fair.
Ah, poms frites.
I have trekked with one called Fidel in Surrey. Had to be coaxed along with carrots.
Oh, so we *like* animals now, do we Ed?
I’d be interested to see comparisons, but my gut feeling is that actually a -9 net rating on ‘acts ethically’ is probably quite good going for a senior politician in this cynical age, especially for a politician who is generally deeply unpopular.
Never change, Daily Mail. Never change.
‘These colours don’t run…oh, damnit, shouldn’t have made that a mixed wash.’
PoliticsUK, owned by former Tory MP Ben Howlett, is keeping overheads to a minimum I see (h/t Politico)
I think it is a weird sort of double trap - they have got the numbers waiting for initial decisions down quite substantially (through the wizardry of actually processing some cases, which the last government just stopped doing) but if you make more decisions, that then leads to more appeals…
Oh yes, we had that (in English, obvs!) when I was growing up too! I loved it.
Yeah, but he’s the sort of chap they invented the word ‘spry’ for.
Very much up for that.
Not to defend the scale of the bombings, but it doesn’t feel like it did all that much for the resolve of the people of Dresden, Hamburg or Tokyo.
Having re-watched Around the World in Eighty Days recently, I can’t help feeling the solution to the Strait of Hormuz issue is to send Michael Palin through them on a dhow again, with crude oil stuffed into little sachets in his pockets. His bonhomie would disarm the Republican Guard if needed.
A week is a long time in politics.
Plans for a Macroom flypast cancelled at the last moment. #Speirgorm
