Mostly music, but also sports. Also a decent bit of book talk, outdoorsy stuff, etc. Not FJM. My teams: Falcons, Hawks, Blue Jays, Atlanta United, PAOK, Alabama, UAB

Been stress watching a split screen of the Blue Jays and Falcons for hours. Looks like I’m going to only get one good result though.

My dad passed away last night. He was napping on the couch and didn’t wake up. He lived life loudly, but got the quiet ending he always hoped for. He wasn’t sick or anything, just really old. I’m obviously devastated, but it wasn’t a huge surprise for a man pushing 90. Tell your people you love β€˜em.

If you're up that way, some of their final shows include Patterson Hood (two shows), Mike Cooley (two shows), Billy Allen + the Pollies (two nights), Ben Sollee, Rob Ickes, etc.

Tangled String’s Final Run

After nearly 14 incredible years, Tangled String Studios will close its doors on January 1, 2026.

Since opening in April 2012, we’ve had the joy of serving the Huntsville community through our handcrafted instruments, recording space, talent buying services, and unforgettable listening room shows.

What started as a dream between Ben Davis, Todd Haller, Ryan Wall, and Susan and Danny Davis became a journey filled with music, laughter, and friendship. We simply followed our hearts β€” and you played along.

We are forever grateful for every ticket bought, beer shared, sponsorship given, and friend made along the way.

To all the musicians, artists, and agents who graced our stage and studio β€” thank you for making Tangled String such a special place. ❀️

Of course, we are forever grateful to our Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment family for wrapping us in their friendly arms all these years. No problem was too big, and no idea was too small.

Here’s to the memories, the music, and the community that made it all possible.

Always a bummer when a venue shutters its doors for good. Tangled String in Huntsville filled a real niche in North/Central Alabama. Gonna try to make to one more up there if I can manage it.

Yup. Trying to decide if I should do that at a reasonable price or take that money and try to get an Iron Bowl ticket at a very unreasonable price.

My favorites here in the US are when people have a bluetooth speaker and are blasting music to the whole train.

1001 Albums Project: 15–21 A brief look at albums 15β€Šβ€”β€Š21 from the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die book. I’m following the same numbering as the book.

Mini-reviews up for albums 15-21 of the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die book. Miles Davis, Sara Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, and Tito Puente in this batch. Looking forward to getting into the 1960s soon.

They're silly, but I do like museums.

I just see a lot of painfully stupid arguments about inclusion. Like the people that say Philip Rivers should be in, but Matt Ryan shouldn't despite nearly identical stats.

Weird calculus that being down 3-2 is having the upper hand! πŸ€”

Our manager is a fool. He's trotted Little out twice in this series in high leverage situations and y'all have shelled him both times. If this goes to game seven (which I'm not convinced it will), he'll gift y'all Little again I'm sure.

Especially in terms of Halls of Fame. No ring? He doesn't belong. Oh, this is a sport with 22 starters so one guy gets punished because his team didn't do something.

And yes, I've been taking this Blue Jays/Mariners series hard, but at the end of the day, this year will have been a blast.
