I am so tired of backhanded compliments, particularly people who feel the need to tear down one music artist to uphold another. you are not complimenting or praising anyone. you are being an asshole. this happens a lot with female artists and the misogyny is ripe.

personally, after doing my own research I do not believe the allegations. there's a lot of holes in their stories and a lot of wild inconsistencies. I don't expect a victim of any traumatic experience to wholly remember everything 100% but some things are too glaring to ignore.

it was a youtube sideshow thingy of static shock to black or white and I loved the song but when I learned it was michael jackson I was shocked and also felt sort of awkward because it's michael jackson, he's not cool! he's weird! and all the controversies and scandals. it just was a lot.

I remember around 2006-ish one of my cousins tried to introduce me to beat it but because I was so biased against michael I remember tuning it out entirely. I became a fan a year later (hell not quite a year later, more like 6 months? it was early 2007) and I was sort "tricked" into listening to him

about how he wanted to be a white woman and all this. I had seen pictures of young michael from the 80s but I thought that was another person and not michael jackson. I also was unaware he did music until I met mj fans online on deviantart and was completely shocked. Like this man did music ??

as someone who grew up in the 2000s, it is very fascinating to me to know that at one point, Michael Jackson was an absolute megastar that people adored and went into wild frenzies over. by the time I was old enough to be aware of him, he was considered to a joke; a punchline.

gets my goat when people say michael jackson was a "better dancer than singer" and downplay his vocal ability. vocal coaches have praised him. people adored his singing from childhood to an adult. he was the whole damn package.

which is a shame because it's a decent game on its own, I'm just not certain if it fits the silent hill title. it'd be like making a yakuza game where you left in the bare minimum of what makes a yakuza game; like you still have the yakuza but they switched to a first person shooter. it'd feel weird

SHF doesn't put me on edge all that much. It has some atmosphere but it's not what I'd call silent hill atmosphere. It just feels like an entirely different game that was maybe loosely inspired by silent hill but it isn't quite silent hill. it feels like a game konami slapped the namesake onto.

whether it's the monster sounds in the forest, the blood curdling scream or the whispers in the apartments, the ominous fog horn in the tunnels, the creepy deep voice in the prisons saying ritual, just little things to set you off and make you uncomfortable. I don't get that from SHF.

and all the unique details such as those was what made it so different. you were there to soak in the environment and the story telling. it was very dream like and strange. and some stuff like the fog was a happy accident but still. I mostly play sh2 when I do replays and I love all the details

so I guess what I'm saying is: why do most horror games have to have such a focus on action? SH was all about the atmosphere. The little details that put you on edge. SH wasn't about jump scares or survival or fighting as many enemies as you can. It was about the soundscape and the visuals (cont)

RE has shifted from survival horror to action overall and that definitely changes the vibes entirely. it seems silent hill has gone from a mostly psychological horror game to a more action-y horror game with some psychological aspects to them, and that feels very off to me personally.

something about modernizing silent hill makes it lose a certain uniqueness. it feels more like another franchise to me. we've seen resident evil evolve but I wouldn't argue with someone who feels the last few RE games were 1-3 and anything past that didn't feel like RE to them.

the dutch camera angles, how everything looks fairly clean and neat in the other world even if it's covered in plants. like it's very reddish but idk. it doesn't feel quite like SH's otherworld to me. I think if the original team silent got together on it it'd feel more like an sh game.

much as I'm liking silent hill f, it doesn't quite feel like a silent hill game to me and I'm not certain why. perhaps it's the lack of david lynch-ian influence, more emphasis on combat, and the general lack of typical SH aesthetics such as the industrial type aesthetic that was prevalent in SH 1-3

"dur hur michael jackson was black then he turned white." he had vitiligo. it really disgusts me people think like this. the way people have denied michael his blackness for ages is so abhorrent and so racist. having vitiligo doesn't make someone "white." educate yourself. think before you speak.
