A plan of an apple orchard with named heritage varieties A kitchen counter-top full of bright green apples The top of an apple tree, very leafy in front of a blue sky. A few yellow/ golden apples are on the tree. A large bowl with different sizes of yellow and green apples

My orchard is a small parcel of land between a wall and dilapidated farm buildings.
The planting means fruit on the trees furthest from the house ripen first and then clockwise until the last tree which holds onto its fruit into December.

Inside a canal tunnel. The blue prow of a barge points towards the light at the end of the tunnel. On the wall & reflected in the water is the following text:
The house is surrounded by water
North is a sparkling array of lakes
The black soil turns russet
The network of canals shift
We learn the lines of the land
The fish farm is tinged with orange
The hare is steady and practiced at the swim
The big house is derelict and abandoned

Snippets from a work in progress.

Based on my family history but set in the future. I hadn’t anticipated so much of the writing would involve waterways and nature. Or apple harvesting.
