ngl theres something weirdly satisfying about seeing the US military empire fail at establishing air and sea superiority vs cheap drones and radio controlled speedboats

Democratic leaders failed to rise to the occasion and condemn the police brutality on display against protestors expressing their first amendment rights. It more than likely cost them the election. Stop crying about it and learn to win an election.

Respectfully, eat shit. Those kids were expelled, arrested, and targeted relentlessly by their school administrations with the specific goal of preventing further protest. Eighteen year old kids were held down and maced by campus security, hit point blank with tear gas canisters by riot cops.

(i would ofc now fold AI into the internet, because they‘re both basically built from the same thing: an unknowable and uncomprehendingly large amount of harvested personal data)

(or like @karengregory.bsky.social once said: big data is like soylent green - it’s made of people)

The Modern World Has Finally Become Too Complex for Any of Us to Understand Vast systems, from automated supply chains to high-frequency trading, now undergird our daily lives — and we’re losing control of all of…

back in 2020 I wrote about our dependency on 3 systems -supply chains, global markets, the internet- all very fragile and too complex to control

for the last year the Trump admin has tried to do just that, and has failed with spectacular and terrifying results

screenshot of text in Grammarly that says "On the other hand, you can learn other things in your other course work and that is also going to be useful to you. The frcitoin is the point as Jane Rosenzweig has noted. So has Benjamin Riley and John Warner." Under that text is a "pro suggestion" from Jane Rosenzweig: "clarify the value of 'friction' for your reader

A lot of discussion about the "list" Grammarly is using, but I doubt there's a list, just a prompt that yields "relevant" advice. I took the direct route to getting advice from myself, which was...to mention myself. This passage also got me some advice from @biblioracle.bsky.social

Grammarly turned me into an AI editor against my will and I hate it The company tells Platformer it will let experts opt out of the controversial feature — but how different is it than what every other AI company is doing?

Wait, what?! Grammarly made an AI persona of me and all these other journalists?!!!!!

Thank you @caseynewton.bsky.social for shaming them into at least offering a paltry optout— although obviously that is not enough.

The Spy-Tech Insider Running Homeland Security’s Biometric Dragnet The official overseeing Homeland Security’s expanding database of faces, fingerprints, and iris scans worked for Anduril, a defense contractor that could profit from the program.

NEW: DHS's "chief AI officer" and head of its biometric surveillance operation came to the agency straight from defense tech vendor Anduril — a position conveniently kept off his public resume. www.levernews.com/the-spy-tech...

‘We’re powerless … and hoping nothing hits us’: trapped on a tanker as Iran war escalates Seafarer tells of explosions in the sky as thousands stuck on vessels after strait of Hormuz is effectively closed to shipping

Bright and beautiful? The man causing millennial rapture with his school hymn singalongs Primary School Bangers caused a sensation on TikTok, then at Glastonbury, and now it’s gone nationwide. Is it harmless nostalgia – or a symptom of an increasingly conservative culture?

this creepy bible thumper is going to be a major player in UK politics by the end of the decade

Today my AI in Fact & Fiction class is discussing 2 short stories: Ray Bradbury's _The Veldt_ and @timmaughan.bsky.social's _Be Good for Goodness' Sake_. We're talking broadly about surveillance capitalism in relation to where all the fucking data comes from for what gets called AI now.

Penso nesse livro sempre q vejo notícias do tipo.

In this video, l've highlighted some of the best GNOME extensions.

Also, this video uses an Al-generated voiceover, which may not sound fully natural at times.

one thing we maybe don’t talk enough about “these days” is how you encounter people that will just straight up lie to you - IRL, to your face - about things you both know aren’t true

(btw this is also why polling doesn’t work and you should never trust any of it)
