First day being full-time at the studio again, after four years of splitting my time between studio work and academic project/R&D work as a spatial experience specialist.
Here's a small article that was published on Friday, just hours before I returned my keys.

The test presses of my new album arrived two days ago, but I haven’t had a chance to listen to them yet because of Jesus.
Attention opens a resonant space in the mind. Larger the space, longer the echoes. Be present and attend to the world and you’ll find a cathedral full of butterflies within yourself.
I'm thinking about writing a series about my favorite reverb plugins and hardware units. Not reviews, but more meditative/poetic reflections of what different reverbs and their designs make me feel or think.
The direct financial implication of my echosophy project is that whenever @valhalladsp.bsky.social releases a new reverb plugin, I lose 50 bucks. Thanks Sean! 💸😄
I have made a new album, which will release in a couple of weeks.. It's experimental ambient drone, 43 minutes of maximalist minimalism, based around sustained A notes. It will be released on Future Sonant, a new sister label of Future Rust. Read more here: www.wuolio.fi/long-tones-a...
I’m especially proud of the opening scene and the two main themes — and yeah, there’s also some shadowy ambient drone work balancing the lighter moments, gotta do something with my noisier synths!
It was a wonderful challenge to compose for this dark and unsettling, yet deeply humane story. I loved diving into the psychological and emotional nuances of each scene. Huge thanks to directors Eva-Maria Koskinen & Hannaleena Hauru for their guidance!
For my Nordic friends! The Boy Next Door, the TV drama I wrote and produced music for this spring is now streaming in Finland (Yle), Sweden (SVT), Norway (NRK), Denmark (DR) — and coming soon to Iceland (RÚV)!
If you live in the Nordics, give it a watch! Would love to hear what you think.
In our baby, I see an echo of myself, and of my wife.
We are echoes and echoes of echoes.
In echosophy, otoacoustic emissions can be seen as tying together presonance and resonance — the same vibrations becoming objects of inner reflection, even as they return to the world.
At the hospital, the nurse was puzzled by my fascination with the OAE device. I wanted to tell her I'm gonna write about it, because it reflects a philosophical truth: listening is not just receiving but also transmitting. (Nancy mentions otoacoustic emissions briefly in his essay on listening.)
My online presence has been lately minimal due to being much more present offline. A new human being appeared, and me and my wife couldn't be more happy!
Two weeks ago I plugged out all my gear and made some changes at the studio. Today, before going to bed, I decided to plug them all back in. That was a mistake. Making sounds is more fun than sleeping.
We are empty, and we often try to fill our emptiness with whatever we can.
I played an acoustic concert in Iceland last Sunday. Read the full text I wrote for the concert program handout: www.wuolio.fi/concert-at-h...
When I make music, I feel like I'm trying to understand something very deeply, while being irresistibly drawn towards something else that I don't understand at all.

Sonance is a concept that I have developed while writing on philosophy of echo and reverb. It is a product of reading Jean-Luc Nancy and my own experience of using reverb in music. I have more blog posts coming about it, but basically it means the experience/presence of sound.
The quotes by @michael-carnes.bsky.social are from this interview: www.fast-and-wide.com/more/fast-ta...
I've been reading a lot about reverb algorithms lately. This article came up as I was digging up information on the new iZotope Equinox plugin, based on the classic Exponential Audio algorithms.
"By opening our ears to the world and listening closely, we become space." I wrote some words on the experience of being in space with sound (which I call sonance) and the beauty of algorithmic reverbs.
"Waveforms hitting the body", I love that! But it's true, sometimes you need to see an image of sound to hear its details. A great way to explain multimodal or mediated listening. :)
“With many genres, one needs the physical impact of the waveforms hitting the body to evaluate what is really going on” —Bob Ludwig, audio mastering engineer. #PhilPerception #AuditoryPerception #multimodality www.soundonsound.com/techniques/m...
What if we are just very resonant matter and the awareness is out there, everywhere, in the world? Perhaps consciousness is a property of space itself.
Posted a small echosophical meditation with a hint of panpsychism. #echosophy #philsky #panpsychism

Must be a koan!
Now I want to turn this into an reverb plugin!
Reading Jean-Luc Nancy and Longchenpa side by side creates fascinating ideas about space!
For example: an echo is basically an observation of the espacement of resonances, or to put it simply — observing becoming space. #philsky #philosophy #echosophy
Many people seem to think that music is a type of language. But what if we’re wrong? What if language is actually a very specific type of music?
It sure does seem pretty damn impossible these days 😅
Meaning is given, truth just... is how it is.
Also a great travel destination! Not too far, but can get very adventurous! 😁
The irony of “looking for one’s true self” is that people look inward when they should be looking out in the universe.
